Joe Biden Isn’t Very Charitable

Byron York got a copy of Joe Biden’s tax returns, and the most interesting thing in them is the fact that Biden isn’t a very charitable guy.

Here is a chart of the Bidens’ giving for the years covered by the tax returns:
Adjusted
Gross Income Charity
1998 $215,432 $195
1999 $210,797 $120
2000 $219,953 $360
2001 $220,712 $360
2002 $227,811 $260
2003 $231,375 $260
2004 $234,271 $380
2005 $321,379 $380
2006 $248,459 $380
2007 $319,853 $995
Total $2,450,042 $3,690
To take Biden’s worst year, 1999, one percent of his adjusted gross income would have been $2,100. One half of one percent would have been $1,050. One quarter of one percent would have been $525. One eighth of one percent would have been $262. And one sixteenth of one percent would have been $131 — still a bit more than the Bidens gave.
To take Biden’s best year, 2007, one percent of his adjusted gross income would have been $3,190. One half of one percent would have been $1,595. One quarter of one percent would have been $797 — a figure Biden surpassed by nearly $200.

Compare that to President Bush, often accused of not liking poor and disabled people by the left:

As far as Bush is concerned, in 1991, the future president, then a private citizen, reportedly had income of $179,591, and charitable contributions of $28,236. In 1992, Bush reported income of $212.313, and contributions of $31,914. In 1993, Bush reported income of $610,772, and contributions of $31,292. In 1994,

Interesting contrast, no?

Interesting! BUT not surprising. Conservatives are typically better givers to charity. Didn’t SA have some statistics on that fairly recently?

what we really have here is a guy who really doesn’t know how to handle money.

Add to that the fact that he’s been wrong on nearly every foreign policy issue since 1973…make you glad he copies off the work of others!

For a guy who was purportedly put on the ticket to help attract the votes of blue-collar Catholic voters, Biden, who with his wife averages nearly a quarter million per year, sure doesn’t seem to believe in supporting the Church with his donations.

Other things to note about Biden’s tax returns:

    1. He has no dividend or capital gains income. 35 years of legislative income, and he apparently has no productive investments.

    2. He’s still paying on his mortgage, and it’s a big one–35 big per year in interest, or a debt north of half a million dollars. Not good for a guy getting to the age when he cannot work anymore.

(yes, there are some who think that you should keep debt to leverage other investments…to those, look at point #1. Biden is not leveraging other investments here)

    3. He has no other income besides the Senate, teaching, and some book royalties.

Is this the kind of guy you want a heartbeat away from signing three trillion dollar budgets? Really the charitable donations issue is just the tip of the iceberg here–what we really have here is a guy who really doesn’t know how to handle money.

    Wow!

The generosity of Biden is just under-whelming.

I can think of many people in my community(about 370 people) who have provided labor, inspiration, and leadership to the folks and young people of this town. On government grants, this is recognized as a in-kind reimbursement at eight dollars an hour. Over this past Summer, the Youth Corps program, I could rival Biden’s contribution although he makes much more than I do.

I have a question, why is Biden’s charitable giving a reason to not qualitfy him as VP or Pres?

I know for a fact that conservatives tip better, and I figure that’s in the same vein. An “uneccesary” expendeture done because you value the work.

I get dozens of obama-shirt wearing customers in my restaurant on a weekly basis, and have yet to recieve a tip from one of them. I picked up a fiver off of a table I was discussing McCain’s good veep choice with, a veteran of Desert Storm and his family left me good money… shoot, even an estranged Ron Paul supporter came in with a copy of Natl. Review in hand, very clearly low income, and still managed to leave me a dollar in quarters.

I just had a group of 20 well-to-do Obama supporters in for a regional grassroots meeting…

    Jack squat.

Now, I’m not saying all democrats don’t tip, but, from the limited information I have at hand… McCain 08 – Tips I Can Count On. ;)

Yet again, proof of the adage “a liberal is someone who is generous with someone else’s money.”

Also on the light side, at least we cannot accuse him of hypocrisy by donating significant amounts of money to his church (Catholic) while contradicting Catholic doctrine in his public life.
