Jimmy Carter: Joe Wilson Called Obama A Liar Because He’s Racist

I say it over and over again: The more unpopular Obama and his policies become the more liberals are going to blame any sign of that unpopularity on racism.

ATLANTA — Former President Jimmy Carter says Congressman Joe Wilson’s outburst to President Barack Obama last week was an act “based on racism.” Carter says Wilson’s comment was part of an “inherent feeling” of some in this country who feel that a black man should not be president.
Carter called Wilson’s comment “dastardly” and said the president should be treated with respect.

Right. Because it can’t just be because Obama was lying and that said lies made Wilson angry.
You can think Wilson was wrong to shout at Obama like that (I don’t, personally) but to say that he’s a racist is wrong. Shouting at someone is one thing. Impugning the man’s motivations with baseless accusations of racism is quite another.
If you ask me, Jimmy Carter ought to apologize to Wilson.

“The president does not believe that — that the criticism comes based on the color of his skin,” Gibbs said. “We understand that people have disagreements with some of the decisions that we’ve made and some of the extraordinary actions that had to be undertaken by this administration and previous administrations to stabilize our financial system, to ensure viability of our domestic auto industry.”…
Gibbs was asked by reporters why this is not a “teachable moment” on race similar to the one that Mr. Obama identified following the Cambridge police flap.
“Obviously, the president has, and has always had, great concerns about race relations in this country,” he replied. “He’s talked about them in speeches. He’s talked about them throughout his career in politics; believes we’ve made great strides, and obviously we’ve got work to do. But I — I don’t — I’m not sure I see this — this large national conversation going on right now.”

Zero has spoken trolls. Its not about race. Deal with it. What’s your spin now?

Not true! As far as “racism” is concerned, I doubt that you know what the word means, much less are able to prove your accusation. Those on the Left have turned the accusation of racism into nothing more than a meaningless, hackneyed cliche. Its just one more tired insult from those who cannot defend their positions without acknowledging what and who they really are.

You can play that race card all you want, but no honest, thinking conservative takes it seriously any more.

  • EnigmaCypher

  • dawneyr

Obama was called a liar because he says he’s concerned that more Americans will die unless we bow to his State healthcare, yet he votes to kill the unborn, abortion survivors and appoints a death-care leaning czar. He uses fear-mongering and divisive rhetoric and gives false promises in the name of hope. He says he’s a Capitalist but bears every resemblance of a Communist dictator, including taking over businesses and using thuggery, scare tactics, and State dripping media to control people. He says he is a transparent president, but he’s already spent around $1.5 million dollars in taxpayer money to conceal his original long form birth certificate and other documents. Obama was called a liar because that’s what he does. NBC, ABC, CBS, and their advertisers can do nothing genuinely to change this. Congress can make a hypocritical stink about it, but all they are doing is shooting themselves in the foot because more and more American voters agree with Joe Wilson. Jimmy Carter is an anti-Semite who could easily be called a racist for his continued hostilities toward the Jews, the God of Israel, and those who support Scriptural Zionism.

Jimmy Carter on Joe Wilson. Carter should know better anyone, that when you point a finger at someone, three more point back at you. How does Carter know what Wilson did was racist?
Wilson spoke the truth, he did it at the wrong time and place.

  • Bat One

It’s ok to wrongfully call the President a liar in a formal setting… blah… blah… blah.

    Wrongfully???

But, of course, Obama DID lie! He lied about quite nearly every aspect of his so-called “health care reform” measure.

He lied about the cost. He lied about the bill’s ballooning effect on the deficit and the national debt. (Thank you, Doug Elmendorf!) He lied about cutting $600 billion from Medicare without effecting the quality of care afforded seniors. He lied about the cost savings of so-called “preventive care.” He lied about the effect his cherished “public option” would have on private sector health care programs currently in place. He lied about people being able to keep their current coverage since business executives’ legally binding fiduciary responsibility to their companies and their stockholders would require them to drop their current coverage at 11-14% of gross in favor of a public payment (tax) of 7-8%.

The FACT is there really isn’t very much Obama has not lied about.

True, there is an argument to be made about public decorum and Wilson’s seeming lack of respect in calling Obama a liar. But those making the argument don’t have much credibility given their enthusiasm for Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and other top Democrats who called President George W. Bush a “liar” and a “loser” and worse… privately and publicly.

When you’ve spent the past 8 years flinging mud, its more than a little disingenuous to complain that someone else has dirty fingernails.

  • robert108

Wilson spoke the truth, he did it at the wrong time and place.

There’s never a wrong time and place to tell the truth, especially with this administration. If they can set the time and place for telling the truth, it will be never and nowhere.

  • Hannitized

He says he’s a Capitalist but bears every resemblance of a Communist dictator, including taking over businesses and using thuggery, scare tactics, and State dripping media to control people.

  • Dave OnFo

Is Joe Wilson a racist? Well, he fought hard to keep the Confederate flag waving over the statehouse in his state.

But I understand that being a supporter of the Confederates and their flag doesn’t automatically make you a racist. It’s more that the flag represents his heritage. (Part of that heritage involves owning black people – which for some reason makes black people angry. Go figure)

Would a man like that be less likely to filter what he says because the President is black.

I’m going to go with “yes” on this one.

And the irony is that S.C. would have benefited more from the health plan than us MA liberals – who already have universal coverage as mandated by the state. In fact us MA liberals would be forced to chip in to insure the people of S.C. because we make more money and pay more Federal taxes per capita than they do.

But hey, that’s ignorance for you.

  • Hannitized

Even if Dave’s response was actually well-reasoned, which it wasn’t, it still doesn’t contradict the fact that Wilson was telling the truth when he labeled Obama a liar.

Indeed, his entire argument, and to a less articulate extent yours as well, amounts to nothing more than a reasonably well-spoken attack on the messenger while studiously avoiding the validity of the message. Its the same sort of intellectual dishonesty offered by Jimmy Carter (and his witless, leftist supporters) in labeling Obama’s critics racists.

  • SigFan

So to follow Dave and Hannitized’s logic, because Joe Wilson is from the South, which does have a history of racism, that automatically makes him a racist, or at minimum inclined to racism? That sounds a bit like bigotry to me – Dave and Hannitized – are you closet bigots?

  • Hannitized

    Wilson set new low

Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., seems to have set a precedent Wednesday night when he called the president a liar during a joint session of Congress.

That’s the official word from House deputy historian Fred Beuttler, who says that though cheering and jeering between parties are commonplace, a single individual seldom steals the floor.

  • Hannitized

Rep. Joe Wilson’s “You lie!” shout to President Obama “struck a new low” in our civil political debate, said USA Today in an editorial, surpassing the “previous low point,” when Democrats booed President Bush’s 2005 State of the Union speech. Sure, presidents have endured “grumbling and booing” from Congress before, especially in recent times, “but no one has disrespected the presidency as Wilson did.”

Yes, Wilson’s outburst “sets a new low bar,” said Kathleen Parker in The Washington Post. But for all the overblown “post-Wilson harrumphing,” we forget that “histrionics” is “a time-honored tradition” in American politics. And thank goodness, too. “What’s more memorable: a president’s rehearsed assertions from the podium or a bunch of congressmen booing the leader of the free world?”

Snickering, booing, and even soft group heckling of the president go back to at least 1993, said Juliet Lapidos in Slate. Wilson’s “loud and denigrating retort,” however, marks the first time a congressman has gone beyond “communal muttering.” And his charge of lying wouldn’t even be tolerated in Britain’s famously “raucous” Parliament.

So when Nancy boy helped overthrow the Shah, Persia suddenly became all sweetness and light?
Onslaught on September 16, 2009 at 01:46 pm

Why do you ask such dumb questions when you know the asnwer?

After all the abuse the Persians sufferd at the hands of the shah and his not so secret police SAVAK,

    Per the Internets:

A U.S. Army colonel working for the CIA was sent to Persia in September 1953 to work with General Teymur Bakhtiar, who was appointed military governor of Tehran in December 1953 and immediately began to assemble the nucleus of a new intelligence organization. The U.S. Army colonel worked closely with Bakhtīār and his subordinates, commanding the new intelligence organization and training its members in basic intelligence techniques, such as surveillance and interrogation methods, the use of intelligence networks, and organizational security. This organization was the first modern, effective intelligence service to operate in Persia. Its main achievement occurred in September 1954, when it discovered and destroyed a large communist Tudeh Party network that had been established in the Persian armed forces

In March 1955, the Army colonel was “replaced with a more permanent team of five career CIA officers, including specialists in covert operations, intelligence analysis, and counterintelligence, including Herbert Norman Schwarzkopf (father of General H. Norman Schwarzkopf, the commander of all coalition forces for Operation Desert Shield/Storm) who “trained virtually all of the first generation of SAVAK personnel.” In 1956 this agency was reorganized and given the name Sazeman-e Ettela’at va Amniyat-e Keshvar (SAVAK). In 1960/61 the CIA trainers left and were replaced by a team of instructors from the Israeli Mossad. These in turn were replaced by SAVAK’s own instructors in 1965. Chief CIA Iran analyst Jesse Leaf in an interview on 6th Jan. 1979 stated that the CIA teaches Nazi torture techniques to SAVAK.

Hell yes. Nobody wants to say it so I am glad President Carter has the courage to tell it like it is. That’s how you know a racist, they always say, oh, “it’s not true”. “It’s not that we hate him because he is the President and he is black”, but they are so angry that Obama is President, they don’t know what to do with themselves so they oppose his policies and behave like juvies. Well, suck it up. Obama is President now, tomorrow and the next day and will be for 4 MORE YEARS. ya’ll got a long hate to go.

  • Neiman

    Christiana Rose
Your comments were the most ignorant, incredibly stupid I have ever witnessed here at SAB. You need serious help!

Even Lord Obama said he does not and did not consider that Wilson’s outburst was based on the color of his skin.

If there is a racist party it is the Democrats that have held millions of people of color chained to the welfare state for decades, their own colored voter based plantation. They are the ones that say people of color are not as good as white people, they need and deserve all kinds of racial preferences. It is conservatives that say all people no matter the skin color are equal, they all just need equal access to the same opportunities, the drive and the encouragement to succeed. It is conservatives that say it is fine to help anyone without regard to skin color when they are down, but for God’s sake give them the tools to get back on their feet quickly, get a job and then build their own futures and self respect.

Because of what Wilson said, which had no racial tones of any kind, a black Congressman in the black caucus today said white people would now get white sheets and ride the country side intimidating people of color. That is incredible, vile extremism on his part, that is racism. What about Obama’s election, with black votes in the high ninety percentile for him, these people of color were voting for him because of his skin color and that is black against white racism.

Before I go and you jump on me for being a racist, the person I love more than anyone else in this world is a 6’4″, 225 lbs, 18-year-old young black man, my grandson. I have a grandaughter that I love dearly, she is Asian (Philipino). In short we are a multi-racial family with people of every so-called race that, came from two white parents and we never heard any racist talk in or around our home all the time we were growing up. We were never told anyone was inferior to ourseleves.

There is no such thing as a black person. All people are one color – flesh, with different shades and tones to be sure, but all the same color- FLESH. There are no different races! There is only one race, the human race. Yes, there are ethnic and cultural differences, which in America used to fade away quickly as everyone assimilated and old barriers broke down. Now put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Like I said……….it was needless, and most certainly untimely.

You guys squandered the opportunity to finish the job in Afghanistan.

Carter LIED! There was nothing said before, during or after to give any credence to that damnable LIE!

Exscept of course for the Palestinians and the Israelis. Because some are more equal then others.

More LIES from the Left! I have never said anything about the skin color or race of the Trans-Jordanian Arabs that falsely call themselves Palestinians. As human beings they are both equal, even in Israel falsely called Palestinians live, work, eat and play alongside Jews with very few problems, with the same rights as Israeli citizens. They did for centuries before many Jews returned home to Israel after the holocaust, then stirred up by Muslim terrorists-extremists outside Israel, in the falsley called Palestinian areas, those Trans-Jordanians became unequal and dirt poor because of the radical, hate filled Muslims in their midst.

The issue is Islam versus Israel and the Jews. It is not about two religions or races fighting one another, it is about Islam and its goal to destroy Israel and to annihilate every Jew on earth. Muslims are the racists there, not the Jews.

So, once again you liberals strike out because of your LIES and gross ignorance!

    More lies!

I only deny that they should be called Palestinians, because they are in no way, shape, manner or form descendents of the Phillistines, a people more akin to Greece. They only used that name after 1952, after Israel became a State once again. They have no historical claim to one inch of the Holy Land.

They are almost totally Trans-Jordanian, Muslim Arabs. As a people they are living in Israel territory illegally, but Israel has recognized their right to exist there, and while I think that is wrong, in the interest of peace they have conceded much of their own land to these Jordanians. The battles are between Israel and extremist Muslim terrorists falsely claiming to represent a falsely called people, to force Israel to give up their entire nation and be once again displaced persons on the earth. They, your Muslim extremist pals, do not recognize Israel’s right to exist and they believe all Jews are apes, dogs to be killed. They deny their existence.

As a Christian I must stand by Israel when they are fighting for the Holy Land that God gave them and He declared that anyone dividing (Partition) Israel, as we are doing, will suffer His Wrath. We have the Bible and Salvation from the Jews. We should defend them!

You stand for the continuation of the war, because you think that if the Israelis prevail (the sooner the better)

    You are a certified idiot!

If you knew anything about the Bible, you would know that Israel is the Apple of God’s Eye, His Chosen people and He warned the world that anyone that tries to Divide His Land (Israel) as we are now doing, will suffer His sure and terrible Wrath. It is God that defends Israel! How else could such a small nation beat the hundreds of millions of Arabs surrounding them and be the center of attention in the whole world for almost all human history? Because the world hates God and they must hate His Chosen People, like you do.

God also said that when people, like you did, cry out peace, peace concerning the Holy Land, “suddenly” destruction would come upon the world. Not because anyone wants war there or hates the so-called Palestinians, it will be caused by those imposing peace.

Until Christ comes again, the Jews will come very near total destruction in Israel, they will nearly be wiped out. So, no an Israeli victory will not bring about peace. It is the peacemakers that will almost wipe out the Jews, not Christians.

What is true Love? It is not saccahrine sweet, it is tough love! It is self-sacrificing, selfless and it is willing to endure insults and attacks, if by exposing sin, even one sinner can be saved. John the Baptist exposed sin, as did Jesus and the Apostles. They condemned sin, they all spoke in holy anger against sin, because they loved the children of the world and loved sinners. It is you that would silence those that speak against sin and your toleration of sin that shows no love for the lost, you hate Israel, you are selfish, wanting to be thought kindly of even if your kind of silence sends hundreds or thousands of people you meet to hell.

No you know neither the Bible, the Spirit of Christ, the Love of Christ or God’s views about Israel, to say what you have said.

  • robert108

Lying little e-hole: All farming is “sustenance” farming, since it produces sustenance; maybe you meant to say “subsistence” farming, which means “just enough to live on”; in either case, fool, there would be production statistics, if they were civilized enough to keep them. Actually, the so-called “palestinians”(actually Jordanian refugees Jordan doesn’t want) are only able to live because they receive massive subsidies from their terrorist buddies.

Neiman! Your anger and intolerance comes out easily.
You passionately believe that your version of Christianity is the correct one.
Nothing could be further from the truth.

If you knew anything about the Bible, you would know that the old testament was fulfilled with the crucifixion of Jesus and we are now under the New testament where among other things we find this gold nugget:

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male or female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus’ (Gal 3:28).

  • Neiman

Ellinas: You cannot possibly know what is in the heart of someone by the written word, emotions of the writer are very difficult to discern. I am not easily angered at all. Being direct and uncompromising is often mistaken for anger, when it is only a reflection of confidence in one’s beliefs. It seems that you are interpreting anger as being in my words, perhaps because they make you easily angry and expose your own hatred, not mine.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male or female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus’ (Gal 3:28).

Not but that there were such in being; and in the churches of Christ, for the primitive churches consisted of both; but the meaning is, that there is no difference between them, the middle wall of partition being broken down, and that, in the business of justification and salvation, it signified nothing whether a man was a Jew or a Greek; he was never the better for being a circumcised Jew, nor never the worse for being an uncircumcised Gentile; both by nature are equally sinners, and stand in need of the justifying righteousness of Christ, and the regenerating grace of the Spirit. The Gospel was equally preached to both, and was made useful to some of the one and of the other; and who, believing in Christ, had a right to the same ordinances and privileges of the Gospel, and shared in the same blessings of grace.

The qualifier herein is whether or not one is really IN Christ Jesus, whether they have been born again of His Spirit and share His Life. Otherwise, outside of His Salvation, these distinctions between people remain in force.

You accuse me: “You passionately believe that your version of Christianity is the correct one.” Why would I defend my faith and pronounce my faith to others if I did not passionately believe it was the correct one. I would have to be a fool to be willing to die for Christ and yet have any serious doubts about my path. We are to walk completely committed according to the Light we are given!

All you need do is use Scripture to show me where I am wrong and if I fail to be able to counter your interpretations to the satisfaction of my own heart by the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I would cheerfully change my beliefs as the Truth is more important that my ego. But, no you just say I am wrong because it seems to me that your faith is without any passion at all, it is not apparent to me that it is something you live by every moment of your life, so much so that you are willing to endure attacks and insults that you might be used to save even one soul.

    Displaying the flag

The display of the Confederate flag remains a highly controversial and emotional topic, generally because of disagreement over the nature of its symbolism.

Opponents of the Confederate flag see it as an overt symbol of racism, both for the history of racial slavery in the United States, and the establishment of Jim Crow laws by Southern states following the end of Reconstruction in late 1870s, enforcing racial segregation within state borders for nearly a century until the Civil Rights Movement. Some hate groups use the Southern Cross as one of the symbols associated with their organizations, including racist groups such as the Neo-Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan.[17] The flag is also sometimes used by separatist organizations such as the Aryan Nations. It is important to note, however, that the official flag of the Ku Klux Klan, as stated by this organization itself, is the flag of the United States of America, not the CSA battle flag. The Aryan Nation also uses the U.S. flag as well as the Christian flag displayed in some Protestant churches.
Supporters of the flag view it as a symbol of heritage and the freedom of the distinct cultural tradition of the South from the oppression of Northern government. Also, in light of some schools and universities banning it as a racist symbol in their “speech codes”, it could also be seen as a symbol of freedom of speech.[18]

White southerners often see the flag as merely a symbol of southern culture, a “country music flag” without any political or racial connotation. An example of this would be the Bocephus Rebel Flag often sold at concerts performed by country music star Hank Williams, Jr or Kevin Fowler, heavy metal band Pantera, and southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. For some, the flag represents only a past era of southern sovereignty.[19] Some historical societies such as the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the United Daughters of the Confederacy also use the flag as part of their symbols. Also some rockabilly fans hold the Confederate flag as their emblem.[20]

As a result of these varying perceptions, there have been a number of political controversies surrounding the use of the Confederate flag in Southern state flags, at sporting events, at Southern universities, and on public buildings. According to Civil War historian and native Southerner Shelby Foote, the flag traditionally represented the South’s resistance to Northern political dominance; it became racially charged during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s, when fighting against desegregation suddenly became the focal point of that resistance.

Symbols of the Confederacy remain a contentious issue across the United States and have been debated vigorously in many Southern state legislatures over their civic placement since the 1990s.

    Link

Perception has much to do with how someone looks at this.

So because the KKK and Aryan nation uses the American Flag in its racist propaganda that the American Flag should not be used?

It is all in how something is perceived.

  • sayanything-2407

The entire State of Mississippi has been flying it over all of their government buildings since 1894. Texas flies the Stars and Bars at every governmental building as well (along with the other five flags to have flown over Texas). The reason behind the desire to honor symbols of the Confederacy is not racism. It instead stems from a regional identity and the noble notions of state sovereignty. These feelings of regional unity are only strengthened by the poor economic situation in many Southern states, and the sense they have that they suffer in poverty while the Northern states enjoy prosperity. It is understandable as well, only one Southern state makes the top ten ranks for average personal income, and then only comes in at 9th. Meanwhile, half of the states in the lowest ten ranks of personal income are in the South. Add to this economic stagnation and decay and you have a recipe for regional resentment.

The false notion that the Battle Flag must be a racist symbol is born of the mistaken belief that the Civil War was about slavery. This bit of propaganda has been repeated ever since President Lincoln and his political allies decided to “free the slaves” (in actuality Lincoln only freed those slaves in the Confederacy, slaves in Union states such as Maryland and West Virginia remained slaves). The truth, however, is plain to anyone who wishes to delve into the history, and the proof lies in the proposed Corwin Amendment of 1861. This amendment was proposed by Congressman Thomas Corwin (R) from Ohio and stated,

No amendment shall be made to the Constitution which will authorize or give to Congress the power to abolish or interfere, within any State, with the domestic institutions thereof, including that of persons held to labor or service by the laws of said State.

Prior to his election, Lincoln had voiced his support of the amendment. Like many politicians of his time, Lincoln believed in the preservation of the Union beyond all else. When the Bill was brought before the House seven states had already formally left the Union (Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina) never the less the bill passed 133-65 and was forwarded to the Senate. In March of 1861 the Senate approved the bill 24-12. Both of these votes were from a Northern majority, seeing as most of the South had already left. Both the outgoing President, James Buchanan, and the newly elected Abraham Lincoln publicly endorsed the amendment. In fact, during Lincoln’s inaugural address he had this to say of the Corwin Amendment,

I understand a proposed amendment to the Constitution–which amendment, however, I have not seen–has passed Congress, to the effect that the Federal Government shall never interfere with the domestic institutions of the States, including that of persons held to service. To avoid misconstruction of what I have said, I depart from my purpose not to speak of particular amendments so far as to say that, holding such a provision to now be implied Constitutional law, I have no objection to its being made express and irrevocable.

The amendment went on to be ratified by Ohio, Maryland, and then Illinois before the outbreak of the Civil War halted the process of adopting the new amendment. Now ask yourself, if the Civil War was really about slavery why didn’t the Corwin Amendment, already passed by the Federal Legislature and well on its way to ratification (given the three free states which had ratified it, and the 15 slave states which would as well, only four more states would have needed to ratify it), end the conflict? The Northern states had already compromised on slavery. The truth is that the Civil War was not about slavery, it just became popular to create propaganda to make it seem so because it gave the Union an image of moral superiority.

Despite these facts, I still oppose the use of the Confederate Flag and applaud Obama’s statement. Not because the flag is racist, but because flying it, especially on government property, is treason. The Confederate flag represents a nation which declared open war on the United States and attempted to do her harm. No matter what the basis of the original grievances, flying that flag now suggests a willingness to rebel against the United States of America, and suggests a certain disloyalty towards our nation. As such it is a treasonous act and one to be held in contempt. The symbols of the defeated CSA should be relegated to museums for future generations to learn about, and they should be retired from active use.

    < a href="http://12angrymen.wordpress.com/2007/05/01/the-true-meaning-of-the-confederate-flag/">Link

I agree in this, that State governments should not be flying the Confederate Battle Flag which in that time was used as a symbol of an act of war against the United States.
