There is some information being left out of the article. Alba is not 100% Latin/Mexican; on her mothers side she is French-Danish.

So she only half Mexican which might help explain why Spanish was not spoken in her home. Her Mom probably never knew it.

In my own family German was the first language, but my father made it known that we would learn English. I have forgotten most of my German.. So what.. I don’t understand what the big deal is to hold on to Spanish.

Spanish is usually gone by the third generation of a family. If grandparents know only Spanish, their kids usually know Spanish and English. Their kid’s kids usually only know English.

This is the norm, it’s not the rule.

‘Raza Unida’ is a Mexican-American political party. It originated in the United States (I am assuming out west and not in Maine.). Those for whom spanish is a first language, live in the US, and support the political party of their choosing (which all us Americans are free to do)… are probably legal.

The problem with far too many immigrants, especially illegal aliens is that they place too little emphasis on full assimilation, even demanding costly multi-language ballots and other considerations because they don’t speak English and don’t want to speak English. Yes, speaking more than one language is valuable, even giving a person more sensitivity to other people of other cultures, but if people are going to live and do business in the United States they need to learn to speak our language – English as their first language.

Europe is just gaining a larger number of militant Muslim immigrants because of their tolerationist mindset that will soon destroying every ancient culture in Europe.

So many immigrants in this country are hyphenated Americans, African-American, Asian-American and etcetera instead of just plain Americans. Why? They do not love America, they love all the economic benefits of living here, but they want to have their own cultural holidays, have their business use only the language of their old culture and on and on they prove they are not Americans in their hearts at all. Ms Alba is proud to be an America, not a hyphentated American and she deserves the respect of other Americans, and to have no concern at all about what hyphenated Americans think of her embrace of all that is America.
