Jamaican Olympic Athlete Interrupts Interview To Honor US National Anthem

I’m not much of a fan of the Olympics. I think most of the events are pretty boring, though I recognize that it takes a lot of hard work and determination for the athletes to qualify for and compete at this level.

But needless to say, I haven’t exactly been tuning in. Not when there are perfectly good baseball games to watch.

Still, though, this moment caught my eye. Jamaican sprinter Usain St. Leo Bolt was giving an interview to a Spanish reporter when, in the background, the US national anthem began to play as American Sanya Richards-Ross was honored for her gold medal in the 400 meter dash. Bolt interrupted the interview and insisted on silence to respect the anthem.

Track and field may be about as exciting as watching paint dry, but you’ve got to respect that sort of sportsmanship. I hope that our American athletes are showing the same level of respect.
