Jack Murtha Calls His Own Congressional District “Racist”
Is someone lowering the bar for Obama in Pennsylvania? If so, you wouldn’t think this would be the best way to go about doing it.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - U.S. Rep. John Murtha says his home base of western Pennsylvania is racist and that could reduce Barack Obama’s victory margin in the state by 4 percentage points.
The 17-term Democratic congressman tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in a story posted Wednesday on its Web site that, as he put it: “There is no question that western Pennsylvania is a racist area.”
If western Pennsylvania is racist, then what is Obama after having stereotyped rural Pennsylvanians as “bitter” people who “cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations?”
Oh. Right. It’s ok to stereotype white people.
