Jack Dalrymple Proves He’s Best Democrat In North Dakota’s Governor Race
5:35pm
Democrat gubernatorial candidate Ryan Taylor chose to cut loose and campaign full-on against the state’s oil boom in his last campaign commercial released yesterday. Today Dalrymple has released his own television ad, and while not a direct rebuttal to Taylor’s, is certainly addressed at the theme of Taylor’s campaign which is that rents in western North Dakota are too high.
Now, a conservative response to that issue might hold that the free market is rising to the challenge and building a lot of housing out west, and that the government is doing what it can to facilitate that process. But that’s not really Dalrymple’s message. His message is, “Look at all the housing the government is building!”
Democrats have long accused the Hoeven/Dalrymple team of stealing their ideas. Back when Dalrymple was Lt. Governor a Democrat member of the legislature called his boss Governor John Hoeven the “best Democratic governor” North Dakota ever had.
Policies like this are the reason why.
The problem Democrats have with Republicans like Hoeven and Dalrymple is that those guys are essentially occupying the center/left position, forcing Democrats to go even further to the left in criticizing them. And as an electoral strategy, it’s worked out great.
