Its Working

Many on the left have claimed that America's war on terror has done little to make the world a safer place. They're wrong. Bush's foreign policies are working and here's the proof from two sources that could never be considered pro-Bush (via Instapundit):

From CNN:

International acts of terror in 2003 were the fewest in more than 30 years, according to the U.S. State Department's annual terrorism report released Thursday.

The Patterns of Global Terrorism report said 190 acts of international terrorism occurred in 2003 -- a slight drop from 198 attacks the previous year and the lowest total since 1969.

From the BBC:

US government figures suggest that terrorist attacks have fallen to the lowest level for more than 30 years.
The annual report records a slight fall in the number of international attacks last year and a dramatic decrease in the number of victims.

The report says that less than half the number of people lost their lives in such attacks last year compared with the year before.

Say what you want about Bush, but his policies have made the world a safer place.

I’d just like to point out that neither CNN nor the BBC are claiming that Bush’s foriegn policy is working. They are reportig the fact that THE GOVERNMENT clains that THE GOVERNMENT’S policies are working.

Look for phrases like “the US State Dept report claims” and “US government figures suggest.”

In other words, theo “proof” that Bush is right is that Bush says he’s right. QED.

This contines the White House policy of “it’s true because we say it’s true, and you have no right to ask us what we’re doing or check our math so just keep sending in those checks and stop asking questions” policy.

Huh? Don, unless I’m mistaken, terrorist fatalities are down. Down. As in, lower than pre-Bush levels.

Are you saying these claims are false?

And, if they’re NOT false, then, is it not kinda logical to see the connection between treating terrorism on a war-footing basis, as opposed to a legal, let’s-arrest-them-and-let-the-courts-decide kinda thing is maybe, oh, I don’t know...maybe, working?

Appeasement. WW II. Look it up; didn’t work then, won’t work now.

Rick, I’m saying that I don’t trust these numbers. This administration has a long and well-documented record of “cooking the books"---changing the data to fit the intended result. Read THE BOOK ON BUSH by Alterman and Green for literally hundreds of examples.

This White Houses lies, Rick. They lie all the time.

Of course I WANT terrorism to be defeated. I WANT the world to be a safer place. But I do not trust the oil industry to do that---and under Bush/Cheney, the words “White House” and “oil industry” are pretty much interchangable.

So what I’m gaterhing from you comments is that you want terrorism to be defeated, but you don’t want Bush to do it because you dislike him.  You apparently dislike him because of his connections to the oil industry and you’re not willing to listen to any sort of argument or information that is contrary to your views.

That’s all well and good, but if Bush’s way of fighting terrorism is so wrong what exactly would you propose we do instead?
