It’s the Readers’ Fault!

Talk about pathological! Here’s a story featuring the liberal mainstream press lying about the liberal mainstream press! And blaming it all on their readers.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Times plans to cut 250 positions, including 150 jobs in the print and online news departments, amid a continuing industrywide slump in ad sales, the paper’s editor said Wednesday.
The decline in advertising, fueled by a weak real estate market, has boosted the copy-to-ads ratio above the industry target of 50-50, giving readers more stories than they can digest, while the paper competes for attention with the Internet and TV, editor Russ Stanton said.

So… because ad revenues are down, suddenly the reader can’t handle a higher news-to-advertising ratio? Only in the warped world of the Left does this even begin to make sense.
There is no indication given that there are more news stories being printed. Only fewer ads. And there is no indication given that LA Times’ readers are any more stupid than they used to be…although anyone who believes the stuff Mr. Stanton is shoveling should have their rabies and distemper shots updated.
More to the point is this question: If the media can’t be trusted to tell the truth about the media, how can we NOT question the veracity of everything else they publish?
Incidentally, the problem of dumb readers inundated with a higher news-to-ad- ratio is not limited to the LA market. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel announced a 10% reduction in personnel this week, while Media General’s Tampa Tribune is laying off 205 of its staff.
On the other hand, as has been widely reported, Rush Limbaugh’s Excellence In Broadcasting network has seen a substantial boost in ad revenues lately, a fact reflected in Mr. Limbaugh’s own substantially increased net profit.

    Bat,

I’ve seen this kind of behavior before. The most recent example was Bagdad Bob’s alternate version of reality, speaking before international press cameras as to how death awaits the American infidel and that they shall never reach Bagdad alive. …. even as the American panzer columns were rolling across the main airport in Iraq’s capitol city. His redefinitions of reality continued right down until the last minute.

Another example before that were back-issues of the old color photo journal of the German National Socialist Party (Nazi), otherwise known as SIGNAL (Seeg-NAHL)

In layout, it resembled nothing so much as a wartime-themed LOOK or LIFE magazine, but as the war ground on and the fronts moved ever closer to the Reich itself the copy writers had to become very imaginative in describing how the Fatherland was actually winning while land US and Soviet armies were moving ever closer to Berlin and the skies were ruled by Allied aircraft.

The Statist mindset is the same in all cases. The truth seems to be more often an enemy than a friend, whether discussing hemorrhaging readership or swiftly degrading combat situations.

I wonder why that is so?

    Bat,

    Agreed.

There was an excellent quote, which I have unfortunately lost. It was from a former Leftist hippy and it went something like this:

The issue of the moment was never the issue. The real issue was whatever worked to break down the Establishment. Whatever worked to further the revolution. Power was the issue.

Thus, to Leftists, the issue is not the Truth. Truth often gets in the way of obtaining or maintaining power.

Whatever works to get or keep power is the Truth of the moment. And the well-trained Revolutionary wielded the Truth as a weapon — viciously shouting down the opposition.

Then of course there is this gem from the Chairman himself. Open your Little Red books to page number…

All of us comrades of the revolutionary rebel groups should learn from them. Chairman Mao teaches us: “We should support whatever the enemy opposes and oppose whatever the enemy supports.

Does that sound like a common thread between home-grown Leftists and some of the better known Marxists, Leninists or Maoists?

    You bet.

If the USA is for something, you can bet your bottom Ruble that the Kennedy-Reid-Pelosi axis will oppose it. And vice-versa.

That is because no one reads that Liberal B.S.

    MZ,

Interesting that at the same time you were posting this comment, on another thread one of our less coherent lefties was acknowledging that honesty, character, and integrity are not nearly as serious a concern for those on the Left as for those of us on/in the Right.

What ever happened to that moron? Is he sitting jail in Iraq?
