It’s Official, Hugo Chavez Is Now Dictator For Life UPDATE: Never Mind, He Loses!

He won his referendum using (as he’d promised previously) a massive state-backed get-out-the-vote machine that had Venezuelans being forced to the polls by government “officials.”

Sound like democracy?  If you think it does, imagine how you’d feel if President Bush had used tax-funded federal resources to heard voters of his choice to the polls.

What has just happened in Venezuela is a travesty.

Update: Never mind.  Despite earlier reports to the contrary, Chavez lost.

Though the big question now is: Will he respect the results?

Hold the phones… call your aunt mildred.... Local media is suggesting that the referendum failed to pass by a 2% margin.

Reuters is dead-wrong. I’m watching live TV from Venezuela right now and the official results were announced minutes ago. The “No” vote took 50.7% and won despite Chavez’s tampering.

Not to mention that Chavez just delivered a concession speech.

Ahhh… not to worry. When Hitler and his cronies realized that he would never win absolute power at the ballot box, they came up with a novel solution; do away with the ballot box. Chavez will demonstrate to one and all that, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.”

He has and continues to declare his intent to create The Socialist State Of Venezuela. Stripping citizens of their right to vote because they obviously do not understand what is expected of them as Citizens of The State will be the next step. Bet on it.

Here is an amazingly balanced article on the referendum from WaPo. You know it has got to be galling for them to report that the “poor” did not turn out in large numbers tHugo. This"Abstention defeated us,” he said. “It’s a lesson for us.” is the line that tHugo will use to build his case for stripping citizens of their voting rights.

And the final line from the BBC’s article,"Mr Chavez said the package of reforms was necessary to “construct a new socialist economy”, this is the point that needs hammered home. The tone is a bit funerary in this piece.

And in other elections,”

Putin party secures huge victory
Mr Putin and his wife after voting in Moscow
Mr Putin’s party said the result showed he was “national leader”
The United Russia party of President Vladimir Putin has secured more than 60% of the vote in Sunday’s election, preliminary official results indicate.”

One Dictator put in his place, another strutting across Red Square. Positively glowing write up on this one.

Why would I think this shakes up Hillary’s campaign a bit? smile

Here is a juicy tidbit from Al Jazeera,""I ask all of you to go home, know how to handle your victory,” he said. “You won it. I wouldn’t have wanted that Pyrrhic victory.”. So we are to believe tHugo and the Chavezistas would not be rubbing everyone else’s noses in it had they won by 2%?

Here is a surprisingly balanced piece from AFP. This,""We need to remain conscious of the possibility that the president could attempt to reach the same results through the legislative process,” Baduel said.” is the money shot. As we have learned here in the States, just because the people tell the government “No” does not mean they do not turn right around and do it anyway.

And I promise, this is the last one. For now.

Wow, all the commies are coming out of the woodwork.

There was a secret weapon that was used to defeat Chavez: The millions who didn’t come out into the streets to protest. They stayed in their homes - just like the people of main stream America do - and watched, and listened. And made up their minds.

So despite Chavez rallying all those hundreds of thousands into the streets in the past few days the vote went against him.

The left may want to pay attention to this.

I think it speaks volumes about the declining quality of murdering thugs when a guy like Hugo Chavez can’t even win a rigged election.

Hey! Don’t be hating. It ain’t like tHugo didn’t try.

Pil, the Chavezistas’ Night of the Long Knives is yet to come. And this has sealed it. There will be a massive kill off in Venezuela. And within 8 months.

Hey Pilgrim, wake up. Those people staying at home are too comfortable to take to the streets and risk violence and persecution by the state, which prior the Chavez were trully corrupt muppets of western bussiness. As for the poverty that exists today in Venezuela, its was there long before Chavez and he and his supporters have in fact done much more to alleviate it then any previous yanky backed dictator. If America is so afriad of the example he sets, I suggest the Americans just arrange/fund his murder as they have in numerous other countries of south America (too many to list here; do some research, or if your lazy; watch John Pilger’s ‘War on Democracy’ and open your TV shaped eyes a little wider).
