It’s A Good Thing The Government Is Cracking Down On All Those People Who Gather In Private To Smoke

Having apparently solved all other pressing matters of law-breaking and criminal enterprise, Minnesota has cracked down on all those nasty bar owners and patrons who (*gasp*) were choosing to gather in private and smoke perfectly legal tobacco.

Of course, the nanny statists at the Fargo Forum love the crack down.

The Minnesota Department of Health deserves praise for interpreting properly the statewide smoking ban’s application to “theater nights” in bars. Some bar owners thought they were being clever by exploiting what they viewed as a loophole in the law, which was, in fact, only a narrow exception for legitimate stage productions in which smoking was part of the drama. The bar owners defied the law and held “performances” in an attempt to skirt the law’s clear intent.

It did not work. The health department was quick and clear in ruling that the bar “performances” violated the Freedom to Breathe Act. The department is the state’s primary enforcement agent.

“Freedom to Breathe Act.” That’s rich.

Apparently we have the “freedom” to demand that property owners not allow smoking, but no freedom to decide to let people smoke in our bars and restaurants if we want to.

Our liberal Minnesota neighbors wiil not tolerate a bit of smoking (law breaking), but a whole lot of mischief against a legitimate military recruiting effort is totally disregarded.  It is becoming more and more obvious that people in the U.S.--especially college students do not have enough to do.

Whew!

I’ll bet the good citizens there are happy that all their government has to do is babysit them. Everything else must be taken care of. Man, what efficiencey.

Question: What if a bar declared itself a private club and charged a “temporary membership”, say, a dollar, at the door. They do that in Utah to get around some of the restrictive bar laws.

If they became a private club would the government then have the right to dictate smoking in their premises?

That’s why they call it “The Communist State of Minnesota”.

What’s next?  A constitutional amendment banning smoking? Truth be known… it’s the one thing that I like about Barack Obama… he smokes!
...just not publicly any more…

As we march down the road ever closer to totalitarianism not having the sense to realize it.  Whether you believe it or not, this trend started with seat-belt and helmet laws.  Drug prohibition is also in there somewhere.

The supreme state knows what’s best for us cause we are too stupid to make our own decisions.

You don’t have to be a moron to be a liberal Democrat but it sure helps.
