“It Is The Government’s Job To Redistribute”

Written By:

“The argument is not whether they should redistribute or not, the question is how much we should redistribute,” says Howard Dean to MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell.

This illustrates the basic economic divide between the left and the right. On the left they want equality of outcome with those who are making “too much” having their wealth redistributed to others who don’t have enough.

We on the right, however, believe in equality of opportunity. Everyone has the same right to go out into the world and earn prosperity, but nobody has a mortgage on another’s prosperity.

I’d rather live in country where you can be as successful as you want to be without worry of, upon reaching a certain level of success, being punished with huge taxes giving your wealth to someone else who hasn’t earned it. If we push the nation’s most innovative, inventive and successful people by redistributing what they earn once they reach some arbitrary level of excessive prosperity then those people are simply going to move somewhere that doesn’t punish them for being successful.

There was a time when America was that destination. The “land of opportunity” where there were no limits. People like Howard Dean hate that America.
