Is This What Democrats Think of Democracy?

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (CBS13) ― In this tight battle for the Democratic nomination we’ve heard a lot about the candidates courting superdelegates.

But, one superdelegate is courting the candidates. He says he’ll sell his vote for a price. A very high price: $20 million.

Steven Ybarra of Sacramento says that eight-figure price is peanuts for the presidency.

When asked whether it was right to offer what is clearly a quid pro quo, he responded, “yeah, absolutely. People do it all the time,” answered Ybarra.

But not like this. Not in public and not for such big bucks. It begs the question: Is he crazy?

“Nobody’s said I’m crazy,” said Ybarra.

Ybarra wants every cent of the $20 million to go towards registering and educating eligible Mexican-American voters, who he calls the key to the White House.

“And I keep asking the question of the DNC: ‘why won’t you earmark money for these voters?’ And their answer is, ‘oh, we can’t do that’ Which is a lie,” said Ybarra.

With the Democratic National Committee saying ‘no,’ Ybarra waits for a ‘yes’ from already cash-strapped Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama.

Would he accept less? How about $5 million?

“No, $5 million is nothing,” said Ybarra.

Earmarks for votes!  What a concept.  Democrats have found yet another way to take taxpayer money and use it to keep themselves in office.  No wonder congressional Democrats under Reid and Pelosi have refused to reform the earmark process.

Sounds like it could be illegal.

When has legality ever stopped a liberal?

A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers.

There’s no doubt in my mind what this Latino DNC member wants from Barack Obama or Hillary Rodham Clinton ... an ironclad promise to spend that heady amount to register Mexican-American voters and get them to the polls in November.
To quote Pilgrim, “We’re soooooo screwed”

Sparkie, are you still sore that our president wants to monitor phone calls to known terrorists?

Certainly not the best politicians money can buy!

Those who think the party or the country, will be “taught a lesson” by handing the levers of power over to the liberals will learn a lesson, but it will be at the expense of our country and her liberties. And there are no guarantees that the party or the country will come out stronger, more conservative or better positioned to win elections against the incumbent liberals.

Sparkie,

The word “earmark” was Democrat superdelegate Ybarra’s choice.  From his remarks quoted in the article it appears he believes this to be a not uncommon practice.  If you believe he misspoke, by all means take it up with him and let us know how he responds.

Yep, Taking earmarks from Dems like Reid and Pelosi would be like pulling teeth.

IAMbs.  Good research.  Now all is needed is someone with the courage to call a spade a spade!  These people pass many laws, but do not want them enforced.
Just think about “gun control” laws.

Wait a minute—according to the story, DNC has said no, Hil and Barak haven’t said yes; where’s the story here?

mdmdc on May 8, 2008 at 07:16 pm

Why should the Dems buy something that they can steal. their usual method?

ummm. WHAT?!?!?

This is outrageous!  Bat One is right, what does this democrat think of democracy if he is selling HIS vote! Despicable, soulless…

What a sell-out.  A complete lack of respect for this country.  Money is not everything, and neither is infamy.

Ybarra wants every cent of the $20 million to go towards registering and educating eligible Mexican-American voters, who he calls the key to the White House.

Except of course the half million or so dollars he’ll recieve for organizing such a drive.

Of course they would be ‘educated’ to vote for the Democrat candidate.

No doubt, Doc.

And likely in the most obvious place. Ybarra’s ties to the Sacramento ruling elite could insure this indoctrination take place in public schools by equipping ESL classes with a ‘updated’ syllabus.
