Is Romney Cutting Back On Ads In Super Tuesday States?

Interesting...

In a major boost for McCain, Romney signaled earlier Wednesday that he’s not ready to commit to a costly campaign in the states holding primaries and caucuses next week.

Several officials said that on the heels of a defeat in Tuesday’s Florida primary, Romney’s campaign was not attempting to purchase television advertising time in any of the states on the Super Tuesday calendar.

Instead, the former Massachusetts governor’s current plans call for campaigning in California and other primary states, said the officials, who had knowledge of the internal discussions. There would be organizational efforts primarily for caucus states.

Either Romney is feeling confident enough with his chances on Super Tuesday that he doesn’t feel the need to run television ads in those primary states, or he’s got the idea that McCain is inevitable and doesn’t want to waste money.

Romney isn’t a stupid man, so I doubt he’s suffering from overconfidence.  I think what we’re seeing here are the first signs of a Romney concession.

Maybe Romney is reassessing where his money be most productively spent. He may have been waiting to see just what Rudy or Huck was going to do today and how he did at the debate tonight to decide which ads to run or where to run them. As angry as he was tonight at McCain’s continuing smear, I doubt he is willing to concede so soon. And I saw a new anti-McCain ad today that was brutal. I don’t think it was from the Romney campaign, but it said everything he needed an ad to say. I understand he had another good fund-raising day today. And McCain’s slam at the businessan tonight will probably generate a response from them that we haven’t seen up ‘til now.

Those who think the party or the country, will be “taught a lesson” by handing the levers of power over to the liberals will learn a lesson, but it will be at the expense of our country and her liberties. And there are no guarantees that the party or the country will come out stronger, more conservative or better positioned to win elections against the incumbent liberals.

Reports today are that this is incorrect, and Romney will be shoveling out the cash for ads.  I suspect this was another lie leaked by McCain, like “Fred will drop out after Iowa and endorse McCain.”
