Is Michelle Obama Proud To Be An American?

Tennessee Republicans would like to know.

I know many want to write this patriotism stuf off as an irrelevant issue, but I think a lot of Americans care about it.  And the Obamas don’t get to lay down with the likes of Jeremiah Wright, Bernadette Dhorn and William Ayers without getting up with some American-hating fleas.

Besides, it’s not like the Tennessee GOP is out running ads questioning Obama’s manhood like the liberals are.

Comments

Don’t ya just love when people edit words out of what someone said, like this video does?  And the guy who said he was really proud when Reagan said he’d kick Gorbachev’s ass; I don’t even think he was born when Reagan said that.

But keep putting up the mischaracterizations of Obama.

I’d be more worried about how you are going to win in November then what a potential first lady has to say, especially when it is edited the way this was edited.

Republicans can’t even win in their strongest congressional districts losing three seats in a row recently with Bush and Cheney campaigning for them.

The Rs even tried tying candidates to Obama and they still lost.  So what do Republicans think needs to happen: (From politico.com)

Rep Tom Davis (R) put out a 20 page report to his fellow republicans.  Here’s the best part of what he wrote:

“The Republican brand is in the trash can....if we were dog food, they would take us off the shelf.” He also wrote in his diatribe: “We can go our own way with our own programs and even disassociate ourselves from President Bush.”

I think we call that “throwing Bush under the bus.”

Mitt Romney:

“If we are ill-defined or, worse, if we’re defined b the failures of the administration or the the failure of Congress in the last eight to 10 years, then we’re going to lose.”

Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey:

“Republicans don’t have a vision.  Their behavior is being governed by a bad political model and we’re losing races.”

GOP Tom Delay:  the GOP

“needs to realize what the opposition is and how formidable it is.  The Democratic Party is organized chaos, bit it is so much better than what we are doing.”

Oh and this one is a doozy from Governor Tim Pawlenty:

“The country is changing. The Republican Party has to have a message that reflects faces and voices of America.  We have to do a better job of recruiting women candidates, candidates of color and diversity.”

You certainly have your hands full for the next few months but with that new slogan of yours, “the change you deserve” you might just want to go for the Effexor instead.

WSJ:

Democrats pulled off the win by smartly nominating a conservative, Travis Childers, from a rural swing part of the district who disavowed Barack Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and hit Mr. Davis from the right.

As I pointed out to the chirping crickets on puzzlefeet’s thread, Democrat Childers threw both Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama under the bus. This does not bode well for a liberal takeover of the country!

A couple of conservative democrats won in Indiana last election by promising they were not going to be slaves to Nancy and Co. It’ll be interesting to see how they backtrack out of that, probably like Evan Bayh does: by lying.

But I absolutely do agree the Republicans have big trouble, so many have tried to re-brand themselves as dem-lites and people are saying no thanks.

Puzzelfoot,

Excellent post. Newt Gingrich would like to contribute by saying,

“The Republican brand has been so badly damaged that if Republicans try to run an anti-Obama, anti-Rev. Wright or, if Sen. Clinton wins, anti-Clinton campaign, they are simply going to fail,” Gingrich said. “This model has already been tested with disastrous results.”

Proof,

Similar to what McCain is trying to do with Bush, isn’t it?

No, he just lies.

“My friends, I will have an energy policy that we will be talking about, which will eliminate our dependence on oil from the Middle East that will prevent us from having ever to send our young men and women into conflict again in the Middle East.” — John McCain

Chauvinism is a proud and bellicose form of patriotism...which equates the national honor with military victory.

So many good men were not respected for their efforts during Vietnam.

It was the disaster the way Vietnam veterans were treated when they came home. Equating ‘respecting’ veterans by continuing a war that had no ending such as Vietnam, isn’t a way of respecting veterans, it’s a disservice.

Nunez,

It helps to know the correct vocabulary.  The original “post” was Rob’s.  Puzzle’s contribution is what’s known as a comment.

Your comment is not only gratuitous, but makes very little sense.

The largely shameful reception accorded our returning Vietnam veterans had nothing directly to do with the shameful manner in which that war and our country’s involvement was ended.  Indeed, most of those responsible for that “shameful reception” were the very same people clammoring for us to abandon the fight and our commitments to South Vietnam and withdraw immediately, in spite of what the situation actually was on the ground militarily, or the horrific slaughter that occurred throughout Southeast Asia after we left.

As one of those returning Vietnam veterans I still remember both the stateside “reception”, in my case at Travis AFB, CA and in Omaha, NB and the communist slaughter that took place after we withdrew.

I don’t think this is about taking back the Senate at this point.  It is about keeping R’s on the reservation and maintaining a filibuster proof minority.  I am reasonably certain that the administration of McCain will be centrist enough that Republicans will not have the numbers to filibuster his liberal pandering.  But give us an Obama and they will filibuster everything that comes down.  It will be a complete do-nothing Congress and Senate.  It may very well get Republicans back to the roots of what the Party should be about--conservative values, specifically free market values.

I am not sure how the Presidential Race will play out between the Messiah and the Old Man.  If I were a betting man, I would say that McCain stands a pretty good chance if he can get Conservatives to turn out and vote for him.  The problem is he is so damned unappealing, that many Conservatives won’t vote at all because of him and that will cost Republicans to fall even further behind.

I honestly don’t think it can get any worse for Republicans unless they lose the filibuster, which they won’t.  Either they will win the Presidency or if they lose it, Obama will be such a disaster that the failed experiment with Democrat leadership will turn the tide again.  The Republicans strategy is to keep enough of a filibuster in place that Obama can only fuck things up moderately badly and Republicans can later fix it.  In that respect, McCain is even worse than Obama because Conservatives will not galvanize against Liberal McCain the way they would against Obama.  Obama may provide Republicans with an awakening and bring the party back, not put a nail in the coffin.  Experiments with Liberal politics have failed all over the world.  That is why France, Canada, Germany, Italy, and the UK have recently elected Conservatives.  Maybe a few partial birth abortions, tax increases, gay marriage laws, high oil prices, and foreign policy failures like abandoning Iraq and throwing Israel to the Iranians will convince people to vote Republican before Obama can really fuck us with Nationalized Healthcare.

Lesat.  How about creating a profile so we can more quickly understand your thinking.  Next, let me respond to your false statements.  Next time, if you have a question, ask.  You remind me of some of my more devious students who, instead of asking a question would say something that was not true and expect the other person to correct them.  Not knowing your age or educational background, I can only guess what your motives are--or were.

Chief has wasted his life by dedicating it to the ideal of us conquering other countries.

He has never understood his oath of service and that may be sad, but it is true.

I do not and have not advocated “conquering other countries”.
For example, I was opposed to “conquering”:
Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosova, Germany, Italy, or Somalia.
As a member of the ANGUS, SCANG and now retired USAF, our mission was a peacemaker.  Unfortunately, there is evil in this world.  Communism, wherever it exists is evil.  Stalin was responsible for killing over 100,000,000 innocent civilians.  Liberals try to gloss over this inconvenient truth.  People like Noam Chomsky try to dismiss the 2,000,000 Cambodians killed after Walter helped fool many Americans during the Vietnam war.  As an Eagle Scout, I learned to help other people at all times.  Trying to help innocent civilians would be one of those goals.
You have no idea about what my obligations to oaths of service entail.  I still have one and just recently in the last months have continued to help our own citizens of South Carolina respond to natural and man-made disasters.
Your words revealed quite a bit about the way you assume things.  If you have a question ask.  That is the polite thing to do.

Lesat.  I missed this one, sorry that you are having so many problems guessing other’s motives.  For your information, my “cloistered little world away from most people” involved being very close to over 10,000 students during my teaching career.  I have also visited and talked with real people in the “former eastern-block countries” of Europe.  [read:  former slaves of the communist regime] The Muslim/Islamic/Terrorists do not have a country.  They are like parasites living on another animal.

making other countries want to be like us without us having to compel them.

I would not want to make any other country or ideology like us.  They should come to those conclusions on their own; like the recent changes in:
Canada, France, Germany, London, England and even Russia.  The Truth, when allowed to thrive will eventually set men free from their communist oppressors.  North Korea and Communist China totally control the exchange of information within their countries.  I do not advocate invading these countries.  Their own people may eventually find The Truth just like some other countries have done.
I have not seen or heard much from the press about how much these mentioned countries are now similar to the USA.  France has finally turned away from communism after a half-century.  I visited there less than a decade ago and found the average citizen very friendly and I did not hide my nationality.  The Truth hurts those who try and lie about it.  Its light shines brightly and with it, freedom soon follows.  That freedom is what I defend.
I can only guess what liberals hide in the dark.  I am proud to be an American, unlike he and she who made no doubt just about every time they opened their mouths.

Thank you for repeating The Truth.
The facts are that the Democrats pulled support in 1975 for the S.  Vietnamese and that led to the slaughter of over two million innocent civilians in Cambodia alone.  Liberals either are ignorant or ignore these facts like Noam Chomsky.
I stick by my contention.  These are the same liberals from the 1930s who sat around coffeehouses in NYC plotting ways to destroy the USA.  Walter Duranty and his NYT lies by omission of the killing—no murders of SEVEN MILLION Ukranians by Joseph (uncle Joe-FDR) Stalin.

Our humanitarian efforts in Afghanistan, Iraq, Hungary and many other countries goes virtually unreported by the liberal press.
