Is Governor Jack Dalrymple Running For His Own Term?

Written By:

The Fargo Forum is running “breaking news” about Governor Dalrymple…not having made up his mind yet about a 2012 run.

The Forum report is devoid of any actual news, but SAB readers will remember that two weeks ago we reported that Governor Dalrymple had sent out another fundraising letter. And, back in February, we broke the news that Governor Dalrymple had formed a campaign committee and had been fundraising.

None of that news is reported by the Forum, but to this political observer it makes it pretty clear that Dalrymple is running.

The party line from the Dalrymple camp and the NDGOP is that the fundraising the governor has been doing has only been to cover his travel expenses for political events which wouldn’t (and shouldn’t) be covered by the taxpayers. But that explanation is pretty thin. The party can certainly cover those expenses for the governor.

I can’t imagine any good reason why the governor would be fundraising other than he’s running.

At the very least, one could argue that the fundraising is just a trial balloon to see how much interest there is in a race.
