Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki: We’ve Defeated The Terrorists

How terribly inconvenient for Barack Obama and the rest of the Iraq war defeatists.

“They [the terrorists] were intending to besiege Baghdad and control it,” al-Maliki said. “But thanks to the will of the tribes, security forces, army and all Iraqis, we defeated them.”

He was speaking at ceremonies marking the fifth anniversary of the assassination in 2003 of Ayatollah Mohammed Baqir al-Hakim, a leading opponent of Saddam Hussein who was killed in a truck bombing in Najaf after returning from exile in Iran.

What will the liberals do if our troops end up leaving Iraq a relatively stable country (compared to the rest of the middle east and what it was before) with a representative government?

Cool, sounds like we won the war. So why cant we leave now?

Like we did in Germany and Korea?
I’m telling you, Buzz! Add a Jr. High history class to the one you need to take in Civics, and you’ll catch up really quickly!

For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.

I also love how the leftards are screeching&wailing about Afghanistan. 4 years they have been screaming that more troops are needed there, and as soon as more start arriving they start screaming that it is a failure because more troops are arriving. Fucking hypocrites.

So everywhere we go we have to stay forever? The Romans wanted to take over the world also. And if I remember my Jr. High history class it didn’t work out so good for them.

Reductio ad absurdum. No one said forever. Even the quote you took out of context in another thread about 100 years is an exaggeration.

The Romans wanted to take over the world also. And if I remember my Jr. High history class it didn’t work out so good for them.

If you remembered your Jr. High English class, you’d know it didn’t work out so well for them.

I’m telling you: Remedial classes, Buzz! They’re all the rage!

That is the B.O. talking point for today.

No admission he and the left were wrong about our losing the war, just get out now and to hell with Iraq. We did not get out of Europe (FDR) or Japan (FDR/Truman) or Korea (Truman), thus we were able to protect them from military adventures by our common enemies and help them build stable economies and democracies, none of which would have happened without a long term commitment from America. Didn’t one of your political gods (JFK) talk about going anywhere and paying any price to help those in bondage and fighting for liberty? This policy of retreat only placates the cowardlty dogs of the Left and is a repudiation of the policies of everyone of the Democrat President’s mentioned above, a complete abandonment of Democratic Party principles and a forward leap into the appeasement and the cowardice of socialism.

Further, Iraq now stands as a symbol of an Arab democracy in the Middle East, giving hope to the people of other Arab states that they too might have a say in their own future. To leave now and to have Iraq fall into chaos now, no matter the cause, would set back democracy in the Middle East perhaps for all time.

Good plan Buzzhead

Buzz.  The Roman Empire was neither a democracy nor a republic.  The people did not have much say in what went on there.  Similar to communism.  On the surface it seemed like they did, but that would be a lie.

We are presently negotiating what is called a SOFA agreement.  Security of Forces.  There is one in Germany, I had to read and understand it.  We will/may stay in Iraq as long as we are invited and as long as the Democrats don’t cut our military off at the knees as they did in Vietnam.

I guess that’s why they called it “Imperial Rome”.  It was a totalitarian dictatorship.

Could you please manage to be just a bit more specific with your use of initials?!  Please?!

They don’t like us to use his middle name as it is racist, so I suspect they don’t like his middle initial either, thus I am only trying to please the fervent Obamanites!

Sorry, didn’t mean to be so fuzzy about the matter!

So???  As I recall, you are not a man who indulges in undue consideration of what others might think of what you say.  Besides, the value of another’s opinion is almost always contingent on your respect for that other person.

Being labeled a “racist” by some leftwing lemming can actually be a source of personal amusement.  The trick is to see just how quickly you can get your adversary to run out of cogent things to say and resort instead to insults such as “racist” or “homophobe” or any of the rest of standard leftist litany.  Usually I try to knock out a few games of “Freecell” in between.  It helps keep the mind sharp… something that fencing with most liberals cannot do for you.

True that.  In order to improve, you have to hang with people who are as good as you are, or better.  I have to remain sharp by constantly discussing with intelligent people in my area; this blog tends to keep me at the elementary level of dealing with ignorance and falsehood; with some exceptions, of course.

R108,

I think that this is the part of the conversation where I point out the distinct similarity between what you’ve noted here and what Kipling referred to as “the white man’s burden.” But, of course, in the current context, I would probably be labeled a “racist” for doing so.

I so love irony!  I truly do!

Neiman,

It could also stand for “blind obedience”, “blatant obfuscation” “blithe opportunist”, or, perhaps, “bus operator”?

It was apparently a poor attempt at humor on my part, playing with words (initials) to be funny and irrite liberals here. That was the sum total of it! Sorry, I should have used lots of smiley faces!

Bat: I surely thought that the Obamanites reference, as the word is so close to abomination and he is looked on as a Messiah figure, it would have exposed my comedic intent. I guess I won’t go into stand-up comedy!

Neiman,

Pity, isn’t it, that the word “abomination” starts with the letter “a” instead of “o”?

As for the other, by all means carry on, Sir.  I was merely try to expand the possibilities under consideration.

BTW
Maliki was not talking about how we have won the war.
He employs a difference sense of the word ‘terrorist’ than we do. I know you all know that and are merely acting jubilant for political reasons, but one should seek out the unique etymology of Maliki’s use of this word before you celebrate.

We will start bids for contractors to rebuild Iraq to the splendid place it was before we invaded. Taxpayers dollars, of course.

Never happen, G.I. Even though I agree with Neiman about our reasons for staying, I think a lot of it boils down to economics and regional stability. What would we do with all the troops back here in the U.S? Don’t forget the tremendous economic impact U.S. troops and their families have on the host country. Furthermore, we add stability by acting as a wedge against re-arming by both Germany and Japan, which I am sure their neighbors do not want. I may be wrong. But this is what I believe.
