Iraq: U.S. Troops “Indispensible” For Security

Hmm…

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq plans to ask the United Nations Security Council to extend the mandate governing the presence of U.S.-led forces in Iraq for another year, Foreign Minister Hoshiyar Zebari said on Monday.

He said a continued foreign troop presence under the mandate, which expires on December 31, remained “indispensable” for Iraq’s security despite the government’s desire to expedite the training of its own security forces.

In an interview with Reuters, Zebari said there was no rift with the United States over the ultimate goals in Iraq despite the past week’s tensions over how much control the Iraqi government has over its forces.

Don’t expect this to get too much attention from the media.  The idea that the Iraqis need us in Iraq lest their fledgling democracy fall once again to extremist tyrants, who would undoubtedly return the country to its days of oppression and genocide, just isn’t something the liberal left and their allies in the media want Americans thinking about right before a national election.

For better or worse, whether you agree with it or not, we made a commitment when we invaded Iraq.  I don’t think it’s right or moral to abandon the mission in Iraq, and abandon the millions of Iraqis who have risked their lives to vote in the three elections that formed their government and are even now laying down their lives to fight against the terrorists and regain control of their country, just because one political party here in America finds it politically opportune to make Iraq seem like a failure.

And that is exactly what is happening.  We can win in Iraq, but the Democrats have tied their domestic political strategy to Iraq being a failure.  Thus, victory in Iraq is not good for the Democrats politically because it looks them look like a bunch of fools.  So they’ll do what they can here at home (if they get in power they’re promising to cut off funding for the war so that our soldiers are forced to drag out of Iraq like they dragged out of Vietnam) to undermine the mission in Iraq, and they’ll work with their allies in the media to ensure that Iraq is never, ever cast in a positive light.

Which is exactly why, if we want Iraq to have a positive outcome for America, we must keep the Democrats at out of office.  At least until they come to their senses and get behind victory in Iraq.

Pressed to support these allegations, the White House yesterday could cite no major Democrat who has proposed cutting off funds or suggested that withdrawing from Iraq would persuade terrorists to leave Americans alone

Say What?

Right.  Because only the potential chairman of the House Weighs and Means Committee (if Dems get a majority) has called for cutting funding to the war in Iraq.

Get a clue, Woofie.

The war against illegal plunder has been fought since the beginning of the world. But how is… legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. Then abolish this law without delay … If such a law is not abolished immediately it will spread, multiply and develop into a system.

No one is going to abandon the Iraqi gov’t and the residents of the Green Zone to be hung on Bahgdads lamposts.

The President will have to justify his now off budget expenditures with clear policy.
Staying the course non-answers doesn’t cut it.

Actually, it’s Bush who is not giving the Army the funding it needs:

The White House Office of Management and Budget rejected Army chief Gen. Peter J. Schoomaker’s extraordinary plea by for the additional funds to pay for repairing and replacing thousands of worn out and blown up tanks, Bradley fighting vehicles and Humvees.

Instead of the $25 billion that Schoomaker says the Army needs just to keep doing what it’s been doing with spit, adhesive tape and baling wire for the last five years, the Pentagon says the Army can have $7 billion.

Also, regarding:

one political party here in America finds it politically opportune to make Iraq seem like a failure

If it’s just the Democrats trying to make Iraq “seem” like a failure, then why does James Baker call it “a helluva mess”, and why does Arlen Spector think our troops are being sucked into a civil war?

I think Zebari’s exact words were “we need to bleed the Infidel for another year, at least.”

James Baker and Arlen Spector are RINOs.  Duh.

Baloney.  If the Democrats get in they’ll choke off funding and spend the next two years on impeachment hearings.
