Iraq Study Group Recommendations An About Face

Of the 360 degree variety, says the Mudville Gazette.

I’m inclined to agree, and would point out (as I did yesterday) that the only part of the ISG’s recommendations that seem to deviate much at all from what we’re already doing is the recommendation that we threaten Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki with withdrawal if he doesn’t get the security situation under control.

Such a move would only serve to embolden the people who don’t want the security situation in Iraq under control by suggesting to them that if they make things bad enough the Americans will leave.

Unless there’s something spectacular in the ISG’s report that hasn’t been made public yet I’m viewing this entire enterprise as a colossal waste of time.

My question is why is part of the commisions advice to “hold a summit with Iran and Syria and discuss other middle eastern peace issues” if it’s a internal sectarian civil war?
