Iran Carries Out Amputations On Criminals- Of Both A Hand And A Foot

I knew that Sharia, the barbaric code that Islamists use as a reason to behave the way they do, allows the amputation of a hand but I didn’t know that if they think what you did was bad enough, they will also cut off a foot:

Five convicted criminals in southeastern Iran have received the seldom-used form of punishment of amputation.
The amputation sentences were carried out in Zahedan, the capital of Iran’s southeastern Sistan-Baluchistan Province. The five men were found guilty of armed robbery, hostage taking, and firing at police, though officially they were convicted of “acting against God” and “corruption upon this Earth.”
Amputation as a punishment is legal in Iran, but there have been no reports of it being used for several years. It is unknown if the meting out of such a punishment now is a new trend or if this was an isolated incident in only one region of the country.
With doctors watching, the convicted men’s right hands and left feet were amputated. Traditionally, the right hand is amputated for a first serious offense and the left foot for a second serious offense. The right hand-left foot amputation is referred to as “cross amputation.”
The Iranian Student News Agency (ISNA) reported the amputations on January 6, though it is not clear when the sentences were carried out or if the amputations were done in prison or in public.

I’m curious how any human being can justify this type of soulless, grisly, nightmarish form of punishing anyone. We have an ongoing debate raging here in the U.S. as to whether injecting someone with a drug that will quietly stop their heartbeat and respiration is a form of cruel and unusual punishment.
Personally, I think that shows the difference in the humanity of the two cultures.
Oh, and here’s another little tidbit about justice in Iran:

Iranian media report that 16 people have been hanged so far in 2008. In 2007, more than 290 convicts were executed, many in public.

Sixteen people hanged so far. Today is January 8th. It’s gonna be a long year for the people in Iran who have to live under the thumbs of the mullahs.
A salute to Little Green Footballs for this charming item.

Are you guys making the bizarre conclusion that cutting off a limb is worse than death?

It is a terrible punishment that shouldn’t be done, but so is capital punishment.

Including the capital crimes of being a homosexual or a non-believer…

Hum…. and prisoners in the US complain about pink underwear!!!

For non-capital crimes, yes! For capital crimes, these fellows will behead you or stone you, so if you’re looking for equivalence, you might start there!

I didn’t make the equivalence, Rob did.

I am well aware that Iran has capital punishment along with the US, Afghanistan, China, Cuba, Pakistan, Lybia, North Korea, South Korea, Uganda…

Its a fine list to be associated with.

No Hawk that isn’t what I said. This murderer (Poke) was not put to death and therefore he was able to escape and murder (attempt, hopefully the man survives being shot in the head) once again. Perhaps if Poke didn’t have any feet he would have found it a lil’ more of a challenge to escape and murder at will.
Actually, I believe capital punishment is needed in many cases Hawk .. as for my amputation remark, that was sarcasm in light of the fact a murderer should never have been permitted to live.

They watched? As in, some barbaric laymen used scissors or some other form of torture to achieve the amputation?
Sheesh… this happening while our Supreme Court mulls lethal injection as being cruel and unusual punishment. Unbelievable!
I suppose though ..we could have amputated Kelvin Poke’s feet and he wouldn’t have escaped to murder again

When are we – and the liberal/left moral relativist community – going to realize that Islam is a medieval, barbaric religion based on the crudest principles of human behavior. Women, gays, petty criminals, lovers [for God's sake, lovers!] can be and often are subjected to ‘legal’ punishments which any civilized community abandoned hundreds of years ago. They are coming!

I don’t think there is a difference between capital punishment and the idea of an eye for an eye. I am torn on my feeling on both subjects. I feel like there are some people that commit such horrible crimes and have no remorse, and maybe death is an ultimate justice.

I bet those criminals won’t be commiting armed robbery, hostage taking, and firing at police again.
