Intolerant Journalists

Howard Kurtz:

The press seems downright excited at the prospect of the first female president.

The idea of the first black president has journalists all but giddy.

But the first Mormon president? Whoa! That’s a different matter.

The skeptical tone toward Mitt Romney’s announcement has been impossible to miss. And the major reason is his religion.

Funny how that works, isn’t it?

Do you think the press would be as skeptical of an Islamic candidate?  Or an atheist candidate?  Or a Mormon candidate who was maybe a Democrat instead of a Republican?

I think there would be a marked difference in the tone of that candidate’s coverage.

Harry Reid is a Mormon.  According to wikipedia:

He is the first Mormon to serve as majority leader and is the highest ranking elected Mormon in American History.

Maybe he gets good press because he’s not running for president...yet!

For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.

It’s not a fair comparison to lump gender and race in with ideology. One choses his or her ideology.

That would be spirituality not ideology, but good point.

Proof,

Maybe he gets good press because he’s THEIR Mormon.

No, I meant ideology. Addressing and defining spirituality is only one part of religion. Other parts address specific rules, politics, and ways of living that don’t always tie into spiritual concerns.

I think that’s a rather confusing way to use the word.  I wouldn’t use it that way, but I suppose it’s not entirely inaccurate.

Governor Richardson is going to do very well in New Hampshire. His international resume is a breath of fresh air amongst the candidates, and it is going to take a fiscally sound internationally minded and internationally experienced Democrat to rebuild from the last 6 years of corporate manipulation and kleptoplutocracy, which has almost destroyed the USA in so many nations.
Diplomacy still works well, and no one is better equipped or more experienced in international diplomacy than New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson. I’ve seen him in action, and the guy really gets important initiatives accomplished in the lobbyist-controlled New Mexico legislature which actually benefit the people of New Mexico, where almost all others have failed. Same is true in the Sudan. I think Richardson could be for the USA what Pierre Trudeau was for Canada. Time will separate the wheat from the chaff, eh?

Stephen Fox,

Your “last 6 years of corporate manipulation and kleptoplutocracy (sic)” gibberish doesn’t help your candidate at all.

Richardson is undoubtedly the most experienced and the most qualified of the all the current crop of Democrats seeking the 2008 nomination.  And while it is understandable that all of them will have to move to the Left in order to try and secure the nomination, given the party’s nominating rules, Richardson’s qualifications far outshine those of Snow White and the Dwarfs.  The more he and his supporters pander to the Loony Left, the Kos Kidz, and the DU Dhimmies, the less he distinguishes himself from the rest of the herd.

Joe Lieberman ought to have taught you guys something.

I am hardly an avatar or pundit, but I can tell you that 70% of New Mexico voted to re elect Richardson, and this is a rather conservative Democrat leaning state in toto. Richardson set a record with that statistic, and with another one too, in shaking hands with 13,000+ New Mexicans in one day, literally reaching out to his constituents, breaking, I believe, Teddy Roosevelt’s record from 90 years ago. I like what Richardson is doing in the Legislature in general, not entirely, but in general, and that is a clear indication of what he would achieve in the USA Congress. New Hampshire, Nevada, and Iowa will tell, but so will California and the West Coast and the large Hispanic vote across the USA. If the prior commenter doesn’t agree that we have seen six years of corporate manipulation and plutocracy, what would you call it? America’s image is in the toilet internationally because of the wrongful presence in Iraq. Richardson would never make up such intransigent corporate-serving lies about Weapons of Mass Destruction, nor would he ever take such bilge to the United Nations General Assembly, nor would he squander $260 billion in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Taking out a dictator and installing democracy = “wrongful”.

Richardson would never make up such intransigent corporate-serving lies about Weapons of Mass Destruction...

Every major intelligence organization in the world believing that Saddam had WMDs = “corporate-serving lies”.

Any more reality you’d like to invent Stephen Fox?
