In The On-Going Efforts To Protect Us From Ourselves, New York Bans School Bake Sales
Thus eliminating the threat that is tasty chocolate brownies.
There shall be no cupcakes. No chocolate cake and no carrot cake. According to New York City’s latest regulations, not even zucchini bread makes the cut.
In an effort to limit how much sugar and fat students put in their bellies at school, the Education Department has effectively banned most bake sales, the lucrative if not quite healthy fund-raising tool for generations of teams and clubs.
The change is part of a new wellness policy that also limits what can be sold in vending machines and student-run stores, which use profits to help finance activities like pep rallies and proms.
How did we ever survive before we had the government to protect us from eating too many sweets? To watch these liberals use expanding American waistlines as an excuse to grab more power for themselves you’d think we’d all be diabetics were it not for them. Truth is, we don’t need the government to take care of us. In fact, by removing the unhealthy food from in front of our children, we’re actually doing them a disservice. After all, in the real world kids are going to be surrounded by junk food.
Wouldn’t it be better to teach them how to eat in moderation instead of denying them even the option of a brownie or two?
On a related note, a New York mom is currently in a fight with her local school district’s ban on kids riding bikes to school. So on one hand New York schools ban sweets because our kids are too fat. On the other hand, they ban riding bikes to school because it’s too dangerous.
Make sense? Not even a little bit. But that’s big government for you. It doesn’t have to make sense to you. You just have to obey.
