I’m Rooting For A Romney Win In Michigan Today

Not so much because I’m terribly enamored with Romney, but because a Romney win helps out my preferred candidate Fred Thompson.
Huckabee won Iowa. McCain won New Hampshire. If Romney wins Michigan each of the first three primaries will have gone to a different candidate, leaving no clear front runner. If Fred can then capitalize on his recent surge of support to take South Carolina, he’ll still be in contention.
If McCain wins Michigan after winning New Hampshire, however, his momentum will be hard to overcome.

I find it funny that a guy from North Dakota doesn’t give proper credit to my birthplace and another podunk desolate plains/Rocky Mountain state like Wyo. I think this is continued fallout from Brokeback Mountain. Now all the sudden a couple of gay cowboys later and the whole country wants to ignore the home state of Dick Cheney.

Wyo….where? I’ll have you know that the sheep ranching goes on in the western part of the state by Rob.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

It’s all dryland farming around here, you know NORMAL stuff.

I see your badgers and raise you a weasel!

I’m hoping Romney wins Michigan because he is the second best candidate. That is not saying a whole lot given the field we have to choose from, but it is what it is.

Michael K., has a tough decision. Vote for Thompson and take a vote from Romney, where a Romney win could prove more valuable to Fred than another 1% showing in Michigan. Good luck with that.

  • Bill Mitchell

    Patriot,

Here’s how it will go down today if Romney wins MI.

    1. He is from there so this was expected.
    2. His dad was Governor so this was expected.
    3. He got lucky with some bad weather.
    4. He spent $2 million on ads so he bought the election.

They will also say things like:

“So, even though Romney has barely managed to squeek out a win here in his home state, don’t serious doubts still hang over his candidacy?”

“Well, many are saying Romney only won Michigan because he was willing to lie to the people and pander to their desire for the auto industry to revive. This just goes to stregthen the notion that Romney will say whatever it takes to win.”

“What’s truly remarkable about Romney’s win tonight is that he didn’t win by more. Being from the state and having a father who was a popular former Governor here, Romney should have won in a landslide. The fact it was close just shows the underlying weakness of his candidacy…”

I know these people in the MSM like the back of my hand. You can expect to pretty much hear all the spin I just described.

P.S., I just watched MSNBC for 2 hours and THERE WAS NOT ONE SINGLE MENTION OF TODAY’S MICHIGAN PRIMARY – NOT ONE! Incredible.

  • pparets

The MSM isn’t interested in the Michigan primary because Barack isn’t in play… simple as that!

No matter which of our guys wins there, the media will spin it as bad news for the GOP which, in fact, it may well be. If Romney wins in Michigan, Thompson wins in SC and Guiliani wins in Florida, then we will still be on square one while the Dems forge ahead with the invulnerability image of the Senator from Illinois.

Today, one commentator actually declared that Obama had the inspiration of Reagan and the style of Kennedy. Dear God!!

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

Anyone worrying about our friend Billy watching 2 hours of MSNBC in a row.

You’ve got to get out of your mom’s basement and do something. Maybe McDonalds will take you back.

  • http://www.ski-blog.com/ sayanything-24

Bill, agree on most of that.

I am struggling here. I gave money to Fred and he is my number one candidate, but Romney is coming on strong. I don’t know how to vote on Super Tuesday. It is down to those two. Michigan, Nevada, and South Carolina will have a huge impact on me. I am split, but folks like me are why Huckabee and McCain are getting their plurality of the vote. This is make or break for Romney. He has to win.

BTW, Rob, it is Huck in Iowa, McCain in NH, AND ROMNEY IN WYOMING.

  • anonomisly

No one is talking about this, but I think a really really bad showing in MI today is going to HURT Huckabee. That would be 3 DISMAL showings in a row after Iowa. Also, Thompson has hurt him in SC.

Gee, if Huckabee would have had 3 DISMAL showing in a row by the time Michigan is done. WHAT kind of a showing would Thompson have had?

p.s. It seems he’s in race with Guiliani to see who will finish dead last in Michigan.

  • Bill Mitchell

A Romney win in MI definitely helps Thompson in SC. If McCain wins MI, he will be unbeatable in SC.

I think if McCain loses MI, he will be mortally wounded. SC will be a battle between a Romney bouncing and Thompson surging.

The way I look at it, if McCain is 10 points ahead of Huckabee right now in SC polls, it means he has really lost that ‘evangelical magic’.

    CONCLUSION:
Romney wins MI and Romney/Thompson battle it out for SC. McCain wins MI and he wins the nomination.

P.S., Intrade shows Romney surging 20 points just today and Rasmussen Markets has Romney surging 28 points since yesterday.

Turnout is reported as “moderate” which heavily favors Romney since he has a BIG LEAD in absentee ballots.

  • Bill Mitchell

What’s really funny is that because the Dems are not voting in MI today, the MSM is acting like nothing is really happening in MI today. Compare this to the NH coverage which was crazy all day.

Bill you are SO right. This is disgusting; when Romney wins tonite they won’t celebrate him as a front runner they’ll talk about it as if he’s -barely- back in the race. He’s been the delegate winner since he won Wyoming!

If the media can’t follow Hillary around they don’t want to be there.

  • Bill Mitchell

Here is the REMARKABLE thing about Wyoming:

How many delegates did Mccain win in NH? Answer: 7
How many delegates did Romney win in Wyoming? Answer: 8

Yet guys like Brit Hume on Foxnews say that “Romney won a ‘small’ victory in Wyoming” while he actually won more delegates there than Mccain did in NH.

    INTRADE UPDATE:
Intrade is going off the charts for Romney. Right now, Romney is +25 on the day and McCain is -13.2 for a total swing to Romney of ALMOST 38 POINTS!

Yeah I know Intrade is silly, but it has been a good indicator.

REGARDING WATCHING MSNBC FOR 2 HOURS:

Lol, Whistler, I hear ya. I would NEVER watch MSNBC normally, however, the election coverage is always quite good and Foxnews’ blows. But, if I had to pick the BEST Election Coverage, I have to say CNN. They have coolest graphics :)

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

Maybe McDonalds will take you back.

You’re forgetting about that little episode with the kittens and the fry machine!

  • Michael K.

    Rob,

I’m going to vote here in Michigan when I get out of work. I’m a big Thompson supporter. So, you believe that I ought to vote for Romney here instead of Thompson?

    Just curious,
    Michael K.

(Apparently, “always” means something different on Bill’s planet!)

    Justin,

    Dude, hilarious!

What we do not need are personal attacks against Proof because it would be wrong if we say that Proof is genetically descended from an albino mongoloid ape and that explains why he enjoys throwing his own feces. We just don’t need people making personal attacks against Proof even if the charges of sodomy and bestiality with the two horses are true. Those kind of things just have no place in a civil discussion of the issues.

Proof, you just got served my friend.

No room for your childishly useless contrarian banter.

I respectfully disagree. There is always room for Proof’s childish useless contrarian banter.

Well, Rob, you got your wish; registered republicans and conservatives went big for Mitt over McCain. But here’s the down-side. Romney got 0% crossover and independent votes and – once again – a non-competing Ron Paul beat a non-competing Thompson and Guiliani; none of which bodes well for the GOP in the general election.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/readers/author/Anna/ Anna

    … LOL

  • http://Tifosi1F1.blogspot.com/ Chris Brownell

If Romney wins in MI, and that levels the playing field, which I agree it will, then Fred Thompson goes on to win in South Carolina, will this be the boost he and his supporters are looking for? What if Rudy picks up a win in Florida? That makes it a five way tie for our party. I think the competition is great but I worry about building support behind a candidate that will defeat the democrats.

After the January 29th Florida primary, there is Febuary 5th which has 22 states (Alabama
    Alaska
    Arizona
    Arkansas
    California
    Colorado
    Connecticut
    Delaware
    Georgia
    Idaho (D)
    Illinois
    Kansas (D)
    Massachusetts
    Minnesota
    Missouri
    New Jersey
    New Mexico (D)
    New York
    North Dakota
    Oklahoma
    Tennessee
    Utah)

Note that California is in there with Minnesota and North Dakota. With the speed at which can snap a neck, we will find ourselves coming out of a single day with a candidate that may not have wide spread support such as Romney or Huck.

I want Fred to win, and I worry that he may have put off the necessity of winning early to gain the necessary support to become a leader of our party and the figurehead of the conservative movement.

    C.

  • patriot

I AM enamoured of Romney. Why not let a business guy see what he can do with big government? I LOVE Fred but we’re missing the “fire in the belly” and I hope he takes SC, because it helps ROMNEY.

I sent him (Fred) more money after his GREAT debate performance and he may win a few other small states, but its going to take more than that to go up against Huckabee and McCain.

    You are nuts.

If we elect one of the RINOS, we’ll be puking for the next four years, but conservatism will survive; if we elect one of the commies, conservatives might be forced underground. Do you really want that?

    Yes!

  • http://www.ski-blog.com/ sayanything-24

Hey, I don’t support those kind of vicious personal attacks against you. I clearly stated that those kind of attacks are exactly the kind of rhetoric that we need to do away with. =)

    You know I love you.

And stay away from my horse.

  • robert108

    Yes!

At least you’re an honest totalitarian.

Why do you hate our Constitution?

Proof’s mom stands by her story.

  • http://www.ski-blog.com/ sayanything-24

Born in Powell. Lived there until I was 6 when my mom graduated from North West Community College and moved to the big city to attend Eastern Montana. Biggest city in Montana. Bright lights. It was quite a change to move to a metropolitan area like Billings. =)

My dad said that if his velcro gloves didn’t wear out from using them on wool so often, I might not be here. Somehow, helping sheep over fences got more difficult without the velcro gloves.

Proof is genetically descended from an albino mongoloid ape and that explains why he enjoys throwing his own feces.

I resent that remark. As the elder albino ape around here I want to state unequivocally that Proof is no relation to our clan. Word in the jungle has it that he was abandoned by his tree-hugging leftists parents who ate the wrong shrooms on a nature hike and was raised by a pack of badgers.

But I wouldn’t know anything about that.

  • Cory

Voting for Romney in Michigan is the best thing for a Fred supporter to do. Huckabee and McCain must be stopped and the only one who can do so is Romney. Get Huckabee and McCain out of this race and let it come down to Romney and Thompson. At least then we will have palatable candidates to choose from.
