If You’re Wondering Why Blogging Was So Light Today…

…I was busy with my wife at our fist baby appointment. Here’s the ultrasound, if any of you are interested in seeing (click for larger views):

image

Here he/she (too early to tell now) is sucking a thumb already at 10 and a half weeks:
image

I can’t imagine how anyone can look at a baby like that and think, “That’s not a person, it’s ok to cut it up and suck it out of the womb.”
Also, if anyone is wondering, the names we have picked out are Holden Robert if it’s a boy, or Layla Sophia if it’s a girl.

    Holden.

    HOLDEN?

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

    Bunny Boy Junior. HMMM

OMG … Rob, I can’t stop laughing … nothing, and I mean NOTHING can prepare one for a life with a teenage daughter.

Question are they supposed to reach their teens when they are 7 years old? Does that mean they’ll exit the teen years early or am I just in for a hell of a ride?

  • carrick

    Roe:

k…I’m gonna go ahead and ignore you, and wait for ‘Rob’ to answer me. And, scientifically, that is not a human being in those pictures

That may be true by your definition, but it’s certainly not a scientific one.

If you want an analogy, we consider the larval form of an insect a member of that same insect species. In the same way a developed human and a human fetus are both members of the human species.

So nice appeal to authority, but you’re flat wrong.

that labor would kill my wife

Even then, there are other choices than to kill the unborn – like Casearian operations.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/ likwidshoe

    BTW … likwidshoe, Thank you!

No problem. I just don’t like asshats who come through here and use multiple user names in order to bolster their own weak arguments. It’s dishonest and it cheapens conversation.

Now if “roe” was clever, he would now try to bring up the fact that IP networks can be public, so therefore we really don’t know if that was him commenting under a different name. Which is possible, just highly unlikely given the following reasons: this is a relatively small blog and it would be one hell of a coincidence for someone to be using the same public network, at the same small blog, at the same thread, commenting one minute apart, and with a similar e-mail address. “roe” would have us believe that this was all one giant coincidence!

This was just your typical asshattery from your typical abortion supporter. Their caustic nature transcends their positions and creeps into their behavior.

  • Jess Port

Good post, sweetie!! And what exactly is wrong with the name Holden? Hmm, Whistler?? It is better than like Fred… No offense to anyone named Fred… Just not a personal favorite.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/ likwidshoe

the multiple personality suffering “roe” said, a fetus.

It’s a human fetus which makes it a human being.

I shouldn’t have to point out that obvious fact.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/ likwidshoe

roe – Sorry, but I don’t resort to calling people names. I’m not in first grade anymore.

Yes you do. And you’re dumb enough to use the same IP address.

Way to make a dumb assumption though…

“Assumption”? Same IP address, similar e-mail, comments one minute apart. No assumption.

…and way to avoid the topic.

    Nobody is avoiding the topic.

So….is it a fetus or a human being?

False proposition. It’s both. It’s not an either/or question.

A human being and a fetus are not the same thing.

No kidding. Nobody here ever claimed that they were.

Let me help you out here since you obviously lack the logic to reason this one through: a human fetus is always a human being. A human being, by contrast, isn’t necessarily also a fetus. That human being could be a baby, for example. Or a kid. Or an adult.

I was hoping you would know this. I overestimated your intelligence.

Who are you talking to besides your own straw man?

  • http://www.mattsconservativecorner.blogspot.com/ Matt

I like Layla – is it a nod to Clapton or do you just like the name?

You can ignore me all you like. I’m still going to point any logical fallacies you may make.

And, scientifically, that is not a human being in those pictures.

    Then what is it?

  • deisofie

Anna….your a dumb cunt. Shut the fuck up.

I’ll tell you what roe. Since you claim that you’re not the one calling Anna names, I’ll go ahead and just ban the IP “deisofie” used. Since you insist that you’re not him, this shouldn’t affect you. Okay?

Now we can move on from the ugliness you have brought onto this thread.

But in this one, I’m with him. That’s your child, and if it’s a “scrap of tissue”, then so are we all. I wish both mother and child a safe pregnancy, and a trouble-free birth.

    Congratulations to all concerned!

One thing though – you’ve got to promise to show us pictures after the birth. Ok, I got a triple dose of Maternal Instinct, but all the same, please post some.

  • docdave

No bias there huh, ROBert? Anyway, why would you want to stigmatize the youngun with the name ‘junior’? Ughhh.

  • Ace25

If you want a little theology on the bio ethics, it depends on what the intent is, and sometimes the procedure: Lets take a tubal (Ectopic) pregnancy for example
If the intent is to destroy the child’s life, by a direct attack on the fetus, this is always wrong.

However, to save the mother’s life, and in the process of saving the mothers life, the baby dies, this is acceptable. By surgically removal, It is an indirect and unfortunate, though necessary, consequence that the fetus will die.

The abortion issue is very touchy. Many of the reasons that you hear from pro aborts are:
    1. Rape — Yes there was a crime committed, but you want to end an innocent life?
    2. Saving the mothers life — A valid argument in some cases.
    3. The child will have deformities — Does this make it any less human, and do they not have a right to live?

Over 90% of abortions are not due to Pro Aborts arguments, look at the statistics, The vast majority of children are aborted because the parents don’t want to be parents & the don’t want to be inconvenienced.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/readers/author/Anna/ Anna

Carol, lol… I can never keep names straight anyway so, all kids are “hunny” to me (keeps me from looking too senile like when I call a child every name but the right one)

How about Zsa Zsa for a girl? AND… Pedro if it is a boy?

  • Carol

I’m aware that my life is about to change, but this is my second one. I’m prepared.

Oh Bunny, parenthood is so unpredictable… don’t be too sure that you’re prepared. Your little girl is an angel and has been since the day she arrived. This one might be a little different. Colic and stuff, ya know!

  • robert108

    What’s wrong with “Rob Jr.”?

  • Carol

I am happy beyond words about the baby coming. Personally I think Robert is a nice name. And I think Sophia is a nice name. But then I’ll probably call the little one something totally different that comes to my mind when I see him/her. Maybe “Bunny” if it’s a boy.

  • DBdowner

If I am correct part of being human is going through life’s phases of physical and hopefully mental (this one goes out to adult fetuses of the world) growth, decay, and death. The fetus happens to be a human being going through one of the first phases and most rapid phases of growth. How cool! Grats, Rob. These liberals lack of conscience causes me to doubt they are indeed persons. Their minds are what you would get if you duct taped a calculator to a lizard brain. And kuddos to science for being a trend setter when it comes to morals and ethics. Its rich history of frying lives monkeys, disecting live humans, gutting various live domestic pets, cross breeding humans with other species, etc provides clear evidense that science is the only real authority on what is moral and immoral. Imagine how stupid we would all be if we didn’t have these adult fetuses telling us how dumb we are for thinking morality lies outside the realm of science.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/readers/author/Anna/ Anna

LOL, sadly, our sweet lil girls start to lose their sugar coating around 6 years old. If you remember the “sweet and sour” suckers from years ago, thats what you have as a daughter for the next 10+ years.

  • Neiman

Those in favor must dehumanize the fetus or they are left with the ugly fact that abortion is murder.

Besides the fact that a choice between having a baby and the mother’s life being at risk being rare; it is a terrible moral question that only the mother can answer. Many women throughout history have preferred to give life rather than protect their own, but if the woman thinks otherwise she alone must live with the decision. That is why a strong immediate and extended family, a minister and close friends are so much better at such times, there is strength in numbers (a multitude of counselors).

  • Jess Port

So…..what if you and your wife were told that, due to medical complications, she could die during labor….would you get an abortion or risk it?

Well, since I am the mother of this baby, (or alien… which ever you would like to call it so that it is easier for you to sleep at night by supporting the killing of human beings) I feel that I can accurately answer this question for anyone who is curious. If it was just my life in jeopardy and the baby would be fine then I would risk it for sure because, as someone mentioned, there are surgeries and things that they can do to try and help me after the fact, or c-section if needed. Now if they said that I will die and the baby will die, and I would get a second opinion to verify that, then I would consider ending my pregnancy. Consider it. But that still doesn’t mean I would do it for sure. With medical science and technology advancing every day, it is hard to imagine a situation that this would even be relevant. So there you have it. :) And by the way since I AM the mother, and I AM having the baby, it is safe to say that this baby IS a BABY. Thanks! I don’t like my child being called a non-human fetus creature thing.

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

A human being and a “fetus” are not the same thing

Let me translate: A human being and a “baby” are not the same thing. Please continue the discussion in English! I should like to see a defense of the indefensible!

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

I thinking about what’s best for you and the kid.

You know that Rob will get distracted by everything anyway.

This has nothing to do with my personal beliefs that guys should wait in the waiting room or at a ball game or something.

  • Carol

How about Zsa Zsa for a girl? AND… Pedro if it is a boy?

Or since we’re Norwegian it could be Ole or Lena!!

Congrats Mr. & Mrs. Port. All the best to you and your baby.

Hey Mick (Bunny), did you ever thing of Hayden? Hayden Robert is nice.

  • Jessica Port

Hey now! I am definitely NOT Norwegian I vote a big fat NO to Ole or Lena. Sorry.

  • docdave

Thanks! I don’t like my child being called a non-human fetus creature thing.

Right on, Jess!! A baby is and has been a human not a thing since time began for the human race. To say otherwise is to deny reality.

  • Ace25

Way to go Mrs. Port. We need more mom’s like you in our society.

  • Jessica Port

So you’d pretty much not need any husband walking around the emergency room fiddling with the electronic equipment and distracting the doctor.

How exactly did you come to this conclusion?? And why are you trying to get Rob out of something that he wants to be there for anyway?

  • Carol

All of my children will be perfectly well-behaved just as I was as a child.

    You were pretty perfect Bunny.

Carol, lol… I can never keep names straight anyway so, all kids are “hunny” to me (keeps me from looking too senile like when I call a child every name but the right one)

I can’t keep names straight either. I just calls them as I sees them. I don’t know if you were in on the Bunny thing or not. But that’s what I’ve called Rob. Sometimes I call him Mick. Depends on how I feel.

  • dave

I’ve been away from my computer for a while… Congratulations!

Although every time I hear the name “Holden” I think of the main character in the
    worst novel ever written.

Maybe I’ll start saying late at work for the next few years then.

  • Carol

I never thought about Sugar Bunny. Although it does fit!! By the way, the Mick is for Mouse. Not Mantle.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/readers/author/Anna/ Anna

Nah.. just do what I do and drop them off at grandma’s and tell them to call you in 10 years. Although, I wonder if that’s that real reason my parents started locking their doors and not because of Bigfoot was in the neighborhood like they said.

How about Sugar Bunny? That is a cute picture!…

    Then what is it?

    a fetus.

  • Pilgrim

Sorry, Rob, I got caught up in answering the infntilistic comment of Roe, whoever that is and didn’t say….

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

And, boy, is your life about to change.

Congratulations, may this be the first of many arrows for you metaphorical quiver.

The technology is better now. Used to be they’d point at something random and say “There’s his nose.” and you were obliged to act like you saw it too.

Hector Peabody Port has a nice ring to it.

It does kind of galumph across the tongue, doesn’t it?

  • Pilgrim

A human being and a fetus are not the same thing. I was hoping you would know this. I overestimated your intelligence.

Unfortunately we can’t ask the fetus, can we?

A human being and a fetus aren’t the same thing? That is absolutely the stupidest thing I ever heard. What is it then, an inconvenience?

Oh, and by the way….ROE, or whatever you’re choosing to call yourself. Try engaging on an intellectual level on this site instead of name calling. I’m REAL sure any number of people here will show your intellectual capacity for what it is. You already have, after all.

  • roe

Sorry, but I don’t resort to calling people names. I’m not in first grade anymore. Way to make a dumb assumption though, and way to avoid the topic. So….is it a fetus or a human being?

  • Neiman

My most since congratulations to you and mostly to your wife!

It is beyond my understanding how any rational human being would call that child a mass of tissue and a non-person; that is a rapidly developing, already human being and to me – overwhelming proof of incredibly complex design and I happen to think from the Perfect Designer.

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

Hector Peabody Port has a nice ring to it.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/readers/author/Anna/ Anna

Normally, I really like those names but since y’all rejected my suggestions for names I don’t like yours ;-)

BTW, I happen to be a girl who grew up with a name that guys taunted from puberty on … you may want to prepare yourself for the evils of adolescent boys and the tears of a girl. :red:

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/ likwidshoe

He turned the post into an anti-abortion shot…

Well yeah, I can see how one would say that. When you admit that it’s a human being in the womb, it tends to be “anti-abortion” by the very nature of the admission.

    …so I’m asking him a hypothetical…

I see you setting up a straw man and looking to play “gotcha!”

    I don’t see a problem with that.

Let me guess – you’re an abortion supporter and you took offense to the “anti-abortion shot” (really just an admission of truth, but whatever).

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

All of my children will be perfectly well-behaved just as I was as a child.

    Roe,

So…..what if you and your wife were told that, due to medical complications, she could die during labor….would you get an abortion or risk it?

That’s a fair question. Personally, I think this situation could well be the only possible exception where abortion is a legitimate choice. It’s hard to speak to medical hypotheticals, but if the doctor said that labor would kill my wife I think it’s acceptable to make a choice in that instance. Just as an emergency room doctor, forced to make a choice between two trauma patients, has to choose to let one live and the other die.

But that, of course, is a much different situation than killing your unborn child because you don’t want to accept the responsibility of raising it.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

I like Layla – is it a nod to Clapton or do you just like the name?

Clapton’s ok, but I mostly just like the name.

And condemn the kid to an adolescence full of wedgies, wet willies and noogies?

    Never.

Hey, I think Holden is an awesome name, jerk.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Even then, there are other choices than to kill the unborn – like Casearian operations.

Well like I said, it’s hard to speak to medical hypotheticals.

I picked out both names, in fact.
