If Sarah Palin Doesn’t Have Enough Experience To Be VP, How Does Obama Have Enough To Be President?

Upon the surprising news yesterday that McCain was picking Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be on his ticket the immediate talking point from the left, emanating specifically from the Obama campaign, was that Palin was too inexperienced. After all, according to the left, wasn’t Palin just a small town mayor a few years ago?
Well now the liberals, including Obama himself, have figured out that bashing a VP pick as “too inexperienced” might not be a good idea when your Presidential nominee is a Senator who hasn’t even completed one term yet.
Obama doesn’t want to go too far down that road.

[Obama] spokesman, Bill Burton, issued a statement suggesting Palin was too inexperienced to be vice president. “Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency,” it said.
The McCain campaign quickly shot back that it was “audacious” for aides to the 47-year-old first-term Illinois senator to accuse Palin of inexperience.
Later in the day, Obama told reporters that the campaign’s early statement was “hair-trigger” and did not reflect his sentiments.
“I haven’t met her before. She seems like a compelling person. Obviously, a terrific story, personal story,” he said while touring a biodiesel plant in Monaca, Pennsylvania.

Obama is clearly going to leave the Palin-bashing to his surrogates, but riddle me this: If Palin is too inexperienced to be VP, how in the world is Obama experienced enough to be President?
What experiences has Obama had that make him more qualified to run the country than Palin? The liberals seem bent out of shape about Obama’s lack of foreign policy experience, but what has he done in that regard that makes him such a better candidate than Palin? Time and again squirming liberals who are pressed to name Obama’s major accomplishments tell us about his having presided over the Harvard Law Review and having worked as a “community organizer” (whatever that is). Comparing those “accomplishments” to Palin’s shows that she’s got a lot more under her belt than Obama.
Palin cut wasteful spending in the Alaska budget. She pushed through a natural gas pipeline that her predecessors in Alaska had been trying to get built for thirty years. She’s refused federal earmarks for her state when she felt they weren’t necessary saying that she didn’t think it was right for people in the “lower 48″ to pay for Alaskan projects. She’s fought to expand domestic drilling. She stood up to corrupt members of her own party (most notably Senator Ted Stevens). What has Obama done that rivals any of these?
He gave a good speech at the 2004 Democrat convention? He’s spent most of a partial Senate term campaigning for President?
Give me a break.

It is a gimmick, he is pandering to women and more importantly, desperately trying to salvage support from the uninspired gop base. None of the other “guys” would have generated this much interest.

    Ole Flipper…what a maverick!

His pick is definitely a gimmick. But the best part is that McCain didn’t even want her. People from the Anchorage Daily News and the NYT have both said that Republican sources close to the situation indicated that McCain wanted Lieberman hands down, but at the last minute heavy influences in the party made him choose Palin because they were afraid of party backlash — and that’s why they didn’t do any vetting.

As to her experience, well…she really doesn’t have as much as Obama. Her Executive experience is moot, it’s of a state that has fewer people than almost 20 CITIES in the United States. And people REALLY think that’s enough? She was in a city council for two terms, then she was mayor (of a city of 7,000 people) and then has been Governor of Alaska for less time than John McCain has been running for President. What rational person, Republican or Democrat, is going to HONESTLY say that’s enough experience? She was barely experienced enough to be Governor of Alaska. This is not an Obama v. Palin argument, this is isolating Palin’s experience (or lack of) to really figure out if that’s enough experience to be Vice President.

Palin is magnificent. Her intelligence, her sense of right vs. wrong, her determination to not let corruption bleed any more into Alasakan politics, her conviction about many issues (still too early to tell about all of these), her poise, her proven record for reform, and gosh, the fact that no one leaked her nomination to the press (gasp!) prior to McCain’s announcement so that dirt-digging could commence – all this must really make the Democrats horrifically nervous. The mud-slinging over the weekend and the snarky, sniping criticisms about her RNC speech has me giggling. Ready for the position of VP? I say YES, SHE IS.

Palin certainly has more governance experience than the Democrat’s choise for the White House. I’d certainly rather have Palin (who will be gaining more governance experience under McCain) step in for McCain and steer the counry than Obama taking the till from day one. God what a train wreck that would be.

Wooten was suspended for ten days for threatening to kill McCann’s (and Palin’s) father, tasering his 11-year-old stepson, drinking beer in his squad car, and violating game laws.

I can see how the Democrats would want to support the guy. He’s like the poster child for dysfunction.

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

I suppose it’s possible, but unlikely as heck that she’d step into the big job in her first week.

For that reason the experience factor is far more important on the Obama side than the McCain side.

For all that, playing parliamentary games in the Senate isn’t worth a darn either.

Palin has more executive experience than all three of the others.

    Hahahahaha!

McCain campaign is the one touting about Obama’s lack of experience for months, running stupid ads. And now suddenly experience doesn’t matter? What matters is you can smile prettily?!!!! Republicans=empty, vapid.

C’mon, Sparkie. Are you suggesting this guy should have stayed on the job? You want this kind of cop to show up when you need the police? The fact Wooten went through a divorce in no way explains or justifies the acts he was accused of on and off the job. Yes, the state police answers to the governor’s office. You can look it up. Or you can just bake a pie and throw it at Palin because the GOP just pimped the Dems at their own game.

I could care less if she is a woman or not. She is Awesome! I think she is exactly what the Republican party and this country needs. Obama and his talk of change is just talk! McCain is actually walking the walk and displays it by his choice as VP. She is young and has the capability and experience that Obama lacks! She will not be someone that any feminist groupie would vote for because she is Pro Life. She is her own person.

Chief executive [Governor] of a state compared to a 3 year senator who voted “present” 130 times and spent two of his 3 years in the senate on the campaign trail….Palin wins again.

Conclusion= Obama’s not qualified to be dog catcher.

The most important question is, who has the best experience and qualifications to be President, John McCain or Obama?

Another issue that should be raised is, that the reason Democrats put an old time Washington politician like Biden on the ticket, is so that he could make sure the kid didn’t upset their political apple cart of cronyism and special interest buy outs, hence no “change” here! Also, that Biden is there precisely, because Obama lacks the experience and qualifications to be President, and the Democrat machine doesn’t trust him running the store.

Obama is an empty suit, a counterfeit fabrication of a leader. He is a creation of the Chicago political machine, and the liberal intelligencia and press, nothing more.

What an amazing pick by McCain!! Gov. Palin brings in a distinguished record of executive experience, running a successful and popular Government in Alaska. An ideal ticket is one where 1 person brings in the Washington experience/foreign policy/national security experience and the other brings in executive/administrative experience. This can be seen from all winning tickets in the past few decades. The republican ticket is the perfect ticket now. She has a record of clean governance, bipartisanship and reducing wasteful spending and is an ideal choice for McCain’s VP.

For all those who wish to raise the ‘experience’ question – do you honestly believe that Gov. Palin is too inexperienced to be President (a post for which, btw, she is NOT running for) despite being the Governor of Alaska for nearly 2 years and a mayor for many years before that, while Sen Obama is experienced enough to be President (a post he is running for)? If you honestly believe Palin is inexperienced, there is now way you could support Obama. Palin brings in executive experience, McCain and Biden bring Washington, foreign policy experience – what exactly does Obama bring in? Neither of the 2.

Also, it is incorrect to see the choice of Gov Palin as a gimmick to pander to the women voters. While that is a bonus, the most important point is that she would be an excellent person for the role of VP in McCain’s administration, with the executive experience, to help him run the country effectively. None of us know too much about her, but whatever little Ive heard so far is immensely impressive. I request all voters to give her a fair chance, do some research and find out about her, and you will see that her candidacy is no gimmick.

Joel, it’s worth noting that the trooper Palin wanted fired was fired for good reason.

The guy is a drunk, and was caught driving his patrol car to the bar. He had a lot of other personal problems too and was clearly a liability to his fellow officers and the state.

That he was Palin’s ex-brother-in-law isn’t really pertinent. He deserved to get fired and was.

But because he did have a relationship to Palin the liberals are trying to turn it into something it’s not. Because this one little issue is all they’ve got on Palin.

Small Town mayor compared to Corrupt Hyde Park Chicago Community Activist….Palin wins hands down.

Turns out her husband is a union man and the two of them are embroiled in some controversy.

Sarah Palin used her position as Governor to get back at the man whom her sister was divorcing, and fired the man who refused to fire her sister’s ex-husband.

I think its corrupt small town mayor vs. corrupt hyde park activist. Let’s not whitewash this. They are all politicians.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

The trooper’s name was Wooten. This is from Wikipedia:

In 2006, before Palin was governor, Wooten was suspended for ten days for threatening to kill McCann’s (and Palin’s) father, tasering his 11-year-old stepson, drinking beer in his squad car, and violating game laws. After a union protest, the suspension was reduced to five days.[7]

The guy didn’t deserve to be a cop.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/readers/author/sparkiearbuckle sayanything-81

I can only speculate. Small town politics is much more fierce that big town politics.

I don’t have a horsie in this race.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/readers/author/sparkiearbuckle sayanything-81

That he was Palin’s ex-brother-in-law isn’t really pertinent. He deserved to get fired and was.

I didn’t know that the governor’s office did the firing for the state troopers. What did Wooten’s superior do to get fired? Palin fired Wooten’s superior after he did not immediately fire Wooten. It’s just a couple sisters abusing their political positions to ruin this guys life because of a divorce… and any guy who resists. And Palin’s pro-Union husband was making phonecalls to urge people to out Wooten.

    Politicians are all the same.
