The UN, as a governing body, is illegal, and as a force for good in the world, ineffective and subsequently, irrelevant.  It does bother me when conservatives, hell, anybody for that matter, look to the UN to do something about problems it cannot and will not solve, or inequities it has no authority to rectify.

your post is so ignorant about the reality of what happened, and demonstrates a disregard for American values of justice - innocense until proven guilty, etc.  - as well as basic rights all people are entitled too, like medical contact to the Red Cross, and freedom from being otrtured.

These people being detained, if you bother to read any articles before you spout an uninformed opinion, are not terrorists they’re refugees fleeing a war crisis. They’ve been swept up and secretly detained. If they were actuallly terrorists, there would be no reason to detain them secretly - even our own Defense Dept director Gates has been arguing to close Gitmo & restore the rule of law by trying suspecrts in American courts or releasing them. Condi argued this to. You’ve got to educate yourself before you go around poisoning other people’s understanding of issues that aren’t that hard to find good info on.

Oh, and I love how you skirt the fact that HRW is all about letting America have it for detaining terrorists...but you never hear a peep from them about Darfur.  Or women beating for not wearing their headscarves in the middle east (good thing Gramma Nancy had hers on!).

Actually if you read the hrw.org web page these looney people on the would want you to believe these people that have aledgely been tourtured and roughed up are just poor people caught in the cross fire. That they are the vicims.
