Howard Dean Strikes Again

Howard Dean speaking in Kansas:

“The issue is not abortion,” Dean told the closed-door fund-raiser. “The issue is whether women can make up their own mind instead of some right-wing pastor, some right-wing politician telling them what to do.”

Of course, its not about right-wing pastors or politicians telling women what to do. Its about people standing up for unborn children so that they’re not killed before they even have a chance to live.
He continues:

“Moderate Republicans can’t stand these people (conservatives), because they’re intolerant. They don’t think tolerance is a virtue,” Dean said, adding: “I’m not going to have these right-wingers throw away our right to be tolerant.”

Makes me think about what moderate Democrats must think of Dean. Here he’s preaching tolerance by labeling an entire political movement as intolerant. If that’s not an example of the pot calling the kettle black I don’t know what is.
Of course, “intolerant” wasn’t the worst thing he called Republicans.

And concluding his backyard speech with a litany of Democratic values, he added: “This is a struggle of good and evil. And we’re the good.”

Who’s intolerant again?
It’d be nice if he could save up some of this bile for America’s enemies.

It does amuse me how the abortion issue is painted as one of ‘tolerance vs. intolerance.’ That is to say, those opposed to abortion are ‘intolerant’ (BAD!) while those in favour are ‘tolerant’ (GOOD!).

The trouble is, the issue simply isn’t one of tolerance at all. For example, if I was in favour of theft (for instance), it would be ludicrous for me to defend my position by painting my opponents as ‘intolerant’ of my free choice to thieve other people’s possession. What I would need to do is demonstrate that theft is morally right and good, and consequently my free choice to thieve should be respected by other individuals.

This is what pro-abortion advocates need to do. They need to present arguments why abortion is not murder, or why it might be a lesser (and perhaps permissible) form of murder (I personally lean slightly towards this position).

But simply saying ‘hey! You’re not tolerating what I do!’ is not an argument at all. And it is most infuriating when people present it as one.

I’ll bite JG, let me see some GOP leaders’ QUOTES suggesting Democrats are treasonous… pretty strong rhetoric that I doubt you can back up.

That’ll be $10K to you, JFH.

    Here’s a freebie, though:

thatcoloredfella said, I think you told me that James Dobson doesn’t speak for you? What about Gary Bauer? Fred Phelps? Jerry Falwell? Rick Santorum?

Why would Fred “God Hates Fags” Phelps speak for Rob? Phelps is a Democrat just like you thatcoloredfella.

    &heellip; I’ll say this much for Howard Dean: He’s not dull. We already know he thinks conservatives are evil (hat tip to Say Anything). What we didn’t know is that he has outed cuomoism for what it is: simply pro-abortion. This past Friday, Dean spoke at Cornell University and stated that politicians who are personally opposed to abortion but won’t publicly act on that belief are pro choice. Dean referred in his speech to the many women who considered themselves pro-life but were actually ‘pro-choice.’ Their position that abortion is immoral, but that abortion must remain legal, is not a pro-life position, he said,. &heellip;

thatcoloredfella excuses his bad behavior, “Come on my friend, you’re better than that! Bile is Ann Coulter, no question. But, why can’t you understand Dean’s words are not aimed at you?”

This isn’t about Ann Coulter. Do you realize that? This is about what Dean said. Stay on subject.

I think you told me that James Dobson doesn’t speak for you? What about Gary Bauer? Fred Phelps? Jerry Falwell? Rick Santorum?

Whether you wanna admit it or not, these people are becoming the face of the Republican Party! And, you can disavow them all you want in these threads, but it means nothing.

This is a pretty ridiculous comment. Most people don’t even know who James Dobson, Gary Bauer, and Fred Phelps are. And Jerry Falwell is fairly marginalized among the majority of Republicans.

So, just as Bill O’Reilly is trying to paint the rantings of Ward Churchill as the views of the Liberal Left, Dean is well within his right to return it in kind.

More six year old behavior from thatcoloredfella. “Well he did it too mom! Wahhhh!”

No spinning, Brandon. English is my first language as it is for many Americans of average or better intelligence.

This is the best you can do?

I can do better by pointing out the many times GOP leaders have suggested Democrats are treasonous or pro-Saddam or have no values.

  • Jadegold

Did any of them assume the position of head of the RNC when they made those statements?

Gillespie was RNC chief when the RNC sent out mailers to WV voters saying the Dems would “ban the bible” if elected.

There are many instances; particularly offensive was Rumsfeld’s comments that opposing the war in Iraq helped terrorists.

Of course we have this doozy:

“”Syria is the problem. Syria is where those weapons of mass destruction are, in my view. You know, I can fly an F-15, put two nukes on ‘em and I’ll make one pass. We won’t have to worry about Syria anymore.”

  • http://blog.xtremeramblings.us/ Brandon

Did any of them assume the position of head of the RNC when they made those statements?

Or is Howard Dean NOT the face of the Democratic party when he makes outrageous like the ones mentioned above?

  • Jadegold

Did any of them assume the position of head of the RNC when they made those statements?

Certainly. Ed Gillespie has made outrageous claims. As have people like AWOL George, Dick Cheney, and Donnie Rumsfeld.

Or is Howard Dean NOT the face of the Democratic party when he makes outrageous like the ones mentioned above?

What Howard Dean said was accurate. The GOP organization is one that is founded on promoting hate and fear.

It’s a fact that’s not in dispute; they have had power for over 4 years–and things have gotten worse. Everything they touch, fails.

    Mark,

Done and edited back to original state. This new kind of comment spam somehow latches into your comment, splits it into duplicate parts and adds the typical spam for poker and casino crap into the middle. Messes up the site layout and it was only luck that I caught it within the first minutes. Just do me a favor: if you ever meet a comment spammer in real life – choke him.

And to anybody else. If you get the error message of, “Sorry, you need to enable
sending referrers, for this feature to work.” in WordPress, go here for a solution to that problem.

“Whether you wanna admit it or not, these people are becoming the face of the Republican Party!”

    To who exactly?

Fred Phelps?! Please, introducing that wacko into the conversation is the equivalent of saying an anarchist like Ted Kaczynski is becoming the face of the Democrats

  • Jadegold

It seems I must educate Brandon in the finer points of the English language.

Let us review what Howard Dean said:

“I hate the Republicans and everything they stand for, but I admire their discipline and their organization,”

The key to understanding this simple sentence is to take the meaning of the entire sentence, not just the first 7-8 words. Clearly, if we do just that, we realize Dean was speaking about the GOP as an organization–not just individual GOPers.

Of course, Brandon knows this. That’s why he omitted the part of the article directly preceding the Dean quote which read:

HOWARD DEAN, THE favorite to be the next head of the Democratic National Committee, made his case in midtown yesterday, promising to make his party operate more like the GOP – at least when it comes to elections.

    Thus endeth the lesson.

  • http://blog.xtremeramblings.us/ Brandon

You’re going to get dizzy with all this spinning, Jade.

He can admire Republicans all he wants. What’s going to stick out is the part about hating Republicans, no matter how much you try to spin it.

  • http://blog.xtremeramblings.us/ Brandon

But, why can’t you understand Dean’s words are not aimed at you?

Howard Dean on January 29, 2005.

“I hate the Republicans and everything they stand for, but I admire their discipline and their organization,”

  • Jadegold

Fred Phelps holds many of the same views of today’s GOP. Let’s not forget it was GOP stalwarts like Falwell and Robertson who blamed 9/11 on gays and feminists and the ACLU.

    Mark,

The comment filter system is holding some comments over as spam. Somehow the comment spam inserts itself into the comment and your post will be marked as spam and hidden. Don’t know why it does that and it just started happening the other day. If you lose another post in the future, either Rob or I will rescue it.

Rob is getting the other Mark to look into it.

    Rob,

Well, I have no problem with abortion. The only liberty at stake is that of the woman.

I still don’t understand why “the liberty of the mother” gives her a supreme right to kill the child of the father.

Its about people standing up for unborn children so that they’re not killed before they even have a chance to live.

How can something be killed before it has a chance to live?

Anyone else notice the conservative pile-on of Clint Eastwood for Million Dollar Baby?

Medved gave away the ending on his radio show so as to “protect” his listeners.

How can something be killed before it has a chance to live?

Wrong choice of words. Obviously I’m talking about a child being killed before it has a chance to experience life outside of its mother’s womb.
