Howard Dean Avoided In North Dakota

On Saturday DNC National Chairman Howard Dean was in Fargo for the North Dakota Democrats' "Campaign Kickoff" picnic.

Do you know who was conspiculously absent from the proceedings? The top two candidates on the North Dakota Demcorat ticket. That's right, neither Kent Conrad nor Earl Pomeroy were at the event. Neither was Byron Dorgan, for that matter, though he isn't campaigning this year.

So where were the state's top Democrats when their national party leader made a rare visit to North Dakota? We don't know. According to state Democrat Director Jim Fuglie all three had schedule conflicts.

I don't buy that for a minute. All three congressmen avoided Dean because they didn't want themselves associated with the man. They know that Dean's politics are the polar opposite of the politics of most North Dakotans.

Which makes me wonder why Dean was even invited to Fargo in the first place. When your top candidates have to avoid the man to avoid getting into trouble with the electorate shouldn't that give state Democrats a clue? And speaking of people being clueless, take a peek at what Dean had to say about his visit to North Dakota on Meet The Press:

"I just got back from North Dakota. There's not more than a war on terror going on in this country, there's a war on the middle class going on. You know, those folks need help. And we need help domestically. We need a change in this country. We need a new direction.

"This is a President who has been bad for America. You should see what's going on in North Dakota. Farmers who haven't had any drought relief, people losing their health care. The President's paying no attention to the middle class. Kids want to go to college. They can't do that now because the President's cut their Pell Grants. There's a lot of problems in this country not being addressed.

"We need a strong middle class to make America strong again, and with Democratic leadership we'll have that middle class strong again with the ability to go to college, with the ability to count on your pension, and with the ability to decent health care."

I hate to break it to Dean, but North Dakota is in boom times right now. State-wide unemployment is just 3.8%, the state has a nearly $300 million budget surplus and tax revenues (both on the state and municipal levels) are skyrocketing.

Frankly, I find it a little demeaning that Howard Dean went on national television and implied to the whole country that North Dakota is in dire straits. We aren't. Yeah, there's a drought, but since when has North Dakota seen a year go buy when we weren't applying for federal agriculture disaster money? Frankly, if our congressional leadership worked more toward making farmers ranchers independent rather than dependent on the approval of federal money by bureaucrats in Washington these ag emergencies wouldn't be such a hardship.

I think this whole situation is just another indication of how North Dakota Democrats - up to and including Conrad, Dorgan and Pomeroy - like to pretend like they represent the views and opinions of average North Dakotans, but in reality are more akin to people like Dean in their politics.

Dean is the greatest! Bush is the biggest MORON this country has sadly ever seen!

You mean radioactive like how Hoeven had to meet criminal Rove privately. But wouldn’t be seen with him at the open meeting.

You may not like Dean but he’s not a disgraced criminal like Rove and Delay. Both of which were invited to ND by our esteeemed NDGOP.

How long have you been mentally challenged (aka insane)?  However I will agree that Dean is the greatest on one thing - lying.

Lying??? Coming from the biggest group of liars in the history of the US! Bush & Co. Oh do tell me, what has Dean lied about? He sure didn’t start a war on total lies where THOUSANDS of soldiers and innocent people have died!

The mentally challeged are Bush and Cheney and anyone who voted for them. At least Dean can speak in audible sentences unlike Bush.

”...the biggest group of liars in the history of the US...”

That would be the Clinton Administration.

Not trying to make friends. Perfect and so typical of a Repug. If you are disagreeing with one you must be a troll and you can’t play with them in their sandbox. Typical of not wanting to EVER hear the other side.

3 times I’ve asked and not one example yet? Just blather. Let’s go back to Jefferson to blame the Dems??? I’m just sticking with blaming Bush. No need to even go back to Papa Bush or Reagan.

Get over it! I don’t agree with you or Bush. MORON is called an adjective. It’s how I described Bush.

Now stop beating around the bush and answer the charges. The other side being the Dems....dah! Calling me and the Dems mentally challenged/insane and liars is not an insult? Typical of only seeing it one way as usual. And it’s always the other guy being the meany.

Fine just keep spinning and not debating anything.Typical of a Repug.

Apparently there’s no one here with the courage to do so. Might as well take your rules down above.

ME on August 14, 2006 at 02:49 pm

You call the President a moron, and I call Clinton a liar.  I used a proven description, whereas yours isn’t proven, it’s just your opinion.  If our President is a moron, what does that make John Kerry, who got lower scores at Yale?  You want debate? Drop the namecalling and come up with something substantive.  I blame Clinton for the bad things he did, and that is a very long list.  He is a convicted criminal, after all.  Fact.

Convicted criminal??? A blowjob is a criminal act? Ok, Bush is a LIAR. FACT. EVERY last thing he based the war on has been proven to be false. But your Repug Congress doesn’t seem to care.

Who cares what their scores were. Bush can’t talk and Kerry is a great orator. Long winded even for me but articulate. I threw it out to insult Bush. Not to compare Yale test scores which is irrelevent.

Get that long list of Clinton going. I’m curious.Because I just learned he’s a criminal...lol...weak very weak!

ME on August 14, 2006 at 03:02 pm

Clinton was convicted for both perjury and suborning perjury.  He got off easy, because he was guilty of a lot more than that.  Kerry might be a “great orator"(your opinion), but what he says is mostly gibberish.  No content, in other words.  I guess you prefer form over substance, typical of the angry left-winger.  Every reason we went to war against the terrorists is true, even though the leftie propaganda machine(the MSM) continues to lie about it.
What you threw out was false.  You claim to want debate, but you apparently don’t know how to do it.
He was convicted in court.  You can look it up, if you are that ignorant of the truth about him.  It’s a matter of record.
When you call someone a “moron”, be prepared to back it up with something more than your own snarky opinions.

I will gladly add you to the moron list. I could care less what you think Clinton was “convicted” of. His issues were private matters that were not the Congress’s business or America’s. Had he never went to “trial” he would never had to lie. So irrelevent to me. 2600 soldiers killed for no reason is something I get worked up about. Billions of dollars going to a foreign country and not here bothers me.THOUSANDS of innocent civilians killed for no reason bothers me. But you clueless spin meisters want to harp on a blowjob conviction. Is that all you have? PATHETIC!

Iraq DID NOT attack us. So why are we at war with them? FACT! None of the hijackers were from Iraq.FACT! Bin Laden is not from Iraq and was no friend of Saddam. FACT! No WMD’s. FACT. Didn’t care that Saddam was a dictator for the prevuious 30 years. Rumsfeld takes pictures and shakes his hand as the leader of Iraq! FACT! Need I go on? Pointless, because you will believe what you want.

What you think Kerry says is gibberish...your opinion. See how that works. Form over substance your opinion as well.

Your pathetic. The left lies about the war???? We didn’t want it or start it. What’s to lie about it? The Repugs OWN , literally OWN the media in this country. So try again.

ME on August 14, 2006 at 03:17 pm

"Iraq DID NOT attack us. So why are we at war with them? FACT!
Nazi Germany didn’t attack us either.  Do you then think that we shouldn’t have attacked them?
None of the hijackers were from Iraq.FACT!
And your point is?  This is irrelevant; see my previous comment.
Bin Laden is not from Iraq and was no friend of Saddam. FACT!
Lie.  Common sense, and recently captured documents reveal many connections between OBL and Saddam.
No WMD’s. FACT.
Lie.  Five hundred and counting.  “No” means zero, so even one makes that a lie.
Didn’t care that Saddam was a dictator for the prevuious 30 years.
Whether you care or not is irrelevant, but the people who we saved(60+ a day) sure do.
Rumsfeld takes pictures and shakes his hand as the leader of Iraq! FACT!
As you should know, that was when they were our allies against the larger threat of Soviet aggression.  You didn’t know that?
Need I go on? Pointless, because you will believe what you want.”

The point here is that you are driven by emotion-based belief, not factual or logical knowledge.  You appear to be a dupe of leftie indoctrination, with little or no broad spectrum knowledge of history or current events beyond what your handlers have fed you.

Looks like “ME” is the real moron here. He thinks that Howard Dean is “the greatest” while Bush is “the biggest MORON” (note the capitalization). While spewing this inverted reality, he fails to realize that he has redefined the word “lie”. I’m not sure what his definition is actually, but I know that it doesn’t jive with the real definition.

I am wondering how, “EVERY last thing he based the war on has been proven to be false.” I guess I am just curious as to how many insults the answer would contain.

But in the end, there’s really no need to even engage much with mush-heads such as “ME”. He has already stated that he’ll “just sticking with blaming Bush.” Don’t bother him with facts. He already has his own.

Who has these documents of Bin Laden and Saddam?? FOX “news”??? They haven’t hit the wire yet...lol

WMD’s mean weapons that could reach AMERICA. Not Israel or Iran but AMERICA. Imminent threat, wich was NEVER the case. So ZERO moron!

Actually, “moron” is a noun. The adjective is “moronic.” Posts like ME’s are made moronically. That’s an adverb, but sort of awkward. Better off to use “in a moronic fashion.”

Which still applies.
