Howard Dean Calls Fox News Racist For Getting Shirley Sherrod Fired

Apparently, to hear Dean tell it, it was Fox News chairman Roger Ailes to canned Shirley Sherrod. And that makes him and his organization racist.

Former Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean accused Fox News of promoting racism, including in the recent fracus over the Obama administration’s forced resignation of Agriculture Department official Shirley Sherrod.

“Let’s just be blunt about this … I think Fox News did something that was absolutely racist,” Dean charged on “Fox News Sunday.”

Dean said Fox helped promote the charges that Sherrod – who is black – made racist comments about white farmers, which led to her forced resignation Monday.

The fervor was built around a video of Sherrod speaking at an event hosted by the NAACP shown online by conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart.

We can argue about whether or not Breitbart was right in the way he posted the Sherrod footage online. We can argue about Fox News’ subsequent coverage of that posting. But at the end of the day, Shirley Sherrod was fired by Barack Obama (I don’t buy for a minute that it was Vilsack’s call, and neither does Vilsack’s predecessor).

If anyone was racist for firing Shirley Sherrod, it was Barack Obama.

I watched it and even when more than once being confronted with the facts that FOX did not mention Sherrod's name or airing the video before Obama forced her to resign, because they feared Glenn Beck, he refused to apologize for calling FOX racist and branding ALL, as he describes it, Right Wing News shows, as being racist as well.

Dean's contention is that to be GOP or Conservative is to be racist and we, by allowing the Left the high moral ground by our failures to make race and human needs the center of our policies and those policies only means to the ends of helping those in need, we have ignored these issues and solely focused on economic issues like heartless accountants. It is a lie, but we are to blame because we simply do not know how to communicate the non-racist, compassionate nature of our policies/beliefs. Dean and his ilk get away with it, because of our failure to lead in these issues and our inability to communicate like human beings.

I study history of science and related epistemology. You can bring judgments based on the content of my heckling all you want. The award refers to the fact that my tuition is paid, I have health insurance, and I am paid a stipend. I do work for this money, e.g. teach and/or do research. Often the dept will pay for me to travel for the purposes of giving papers or attending workshops, etc.

You'll find, much to your chagrin, that many schools offer awards to PhD students. Perhaps a little thought would change you opinions about things… but of course its just a waste to spend education money on someone who has already been skull-f**ked by the military.

Perhaps it will be clearer to you if I explain that everyone can't just follow orders. You know those guys who tell you when to breathe? Somewhere up their, through all those layers, are people who need to think.
