Hillary Doesn’t Trust You To Make Your Child’s Education Decisions

Sigh...

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton slammed private-school voucher proposals yesterday, predicting that vouchers would eventually lead to the creation of taxpayer-financed white supremacist academies - or even a government-funded "School of the Jihad."

Clinton, a longtime voucher foe who earned the backing of the city teachers union in 2000, says government financing of sectarian groups would incite ethnic and religious conflict - and encourage fringe groups to demand government cash to run their schools.

President George W. Bush has long favored laws that require states to provide vouchers, a position that earned him the allegiance of conservative Christian groups that have clamored for public education dollars.

"First family that comes and says 'I want to send my daughter to St. Peter's Roman Catholic School' and you say 'Great, wonderful school, here's your voucher,'" Clinton said. "Next parent that comes and says, 'I want to send my child to the school of the Church of the White Supremacist ...' The parent says, 'The way that I read Genesis, Cain was marked, therefore I believe in white supremacy. ... You gave it to a Catholic parent, you gave it to a Jewish parent, under the Constitution, you can't discriminate against me.'"

As an adoring, if somewhat puzzled, audience of Bronx activists looked on, Clinton added, "So what if the next parent comes and says, 'I want to send my child to the School of the Jihad? ... I won't stand for it."

She won't stand for it? I wonder if she'll stand for the unmitigated success a voucher program in Florida had with raising test scores, especially among low-income and minority students. Unfortunately, that program in Florida has now been struck down by the court system (after a lawsuit was filed by the teacher unions, predictably), but it was one of the few instances of education vouchers ever to exist here in the U.S....and it worked.

I can't help but feel that Clinton, with these statements, is more concerned about her standing with union interests than she is with the quality of education our kids receive. Especially when evidence to suggest that vouchers work, and work well, is readily at hand.

Miz Hillary has a good deal more to worry about pandering to the teachers’ unions, or the "plantation mentality" of those same unions when it comes to the education of poor, largely minority children in their charge.

Dick Morris has an article in the current issue of the Hill magazine (http://www.thehill.com/thehill/export/TheHill/Comment/DickMorris/022206.html) in which he all but declares her 2008 presidential hopes dead… usurped by AlGore of all people.  Remember the famous NR cover from two years ago, "Please Nominate this Man" (Howard Dean)?  Well, its de ja vu all over again for the GOP.

Gore, who couldn’t carry his own home state as a moderate, is running as a MoveOn certified moonbat.  How Sweet It Is!

not a big hilary fan, however i kinda think ya might have missed the point of her stance. ya see MANY american taxpayers, under any circumstances, don’t want their tax dollars spent on teaching kids that a baby can be born through VIRGIN BIRTH,a guy walked on water whenever he didnt wanna get wet, walked around"casting out demons",turning 4 fish and a loaf of bread into a picnic for a group of his "friends"(judging by the lack of female company they kept back then one might guess BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN existed long before 2005). if SEAN HANNITY,mel gibson, ann coulter and others who believe in daffy duck, cartoons and DEMONS(oooooooo how scary)perhaps they should stick to sending their kids to CATHOLIC SCHOOLS. this way they can increase their forces, since the goal of religions is to cover the planet with DISFUNCTIONAL PEOPLE they can do it with their money NOT OURS! this way the teachers can beat up their kids and the local priests can practice on their 10-12 yr olds. but all is not lost as any republican who holds a political office now can relax and look at it this way.......just think only 8 more months or so before THEY WILL ALL HAVE  tons of free time on their hands after the SWEEP takes place in november and they all COME OUT! but good news for FOX NEWS even after the elections when the CLEANING OUT process is complete, sean hannity can always bring the schindlers back on and accuse michael schiavo of murder. even bill o’reilly will be fine after THE SWEEP because he can still EXPLOIT more child abuse cases....kinda weird that he spent 3 weeks harping about the sentence the judge in vermont sent down to that animal that molested the young girl. but since that has occurred 2 more priests were sentenced in california, one to a 3 year sentence and the other one got 16 months(yes MONTHS) but oddly enough bill missed those rulings....aahhhhhhhhhhhh ya gotta love REPUBLICAN SELECTIVE JUSTICE

Hugh…

I wish your parents had sent you to a school that would have tought you to at least pretend as though you grasped things like spelling, grammar and coherent writing.

Maybe if they’d had access to vouchers they could have.

Hugh…

Don’t mean to pile on you.

I realize it is tough to sit in your house, read bumper stickers, and then get them typed in.

May I suggest that you go over to DU or the DailyKos and cut and paste. It will accomplish the same thing.

Hugh,

Did you really, really write that all by yourself?  Amazing!

If everyone over at the higher education thread would kindly spend a few moments over here, perhaps we can settle the question of the efficacy of our current education system, particularly in the areas of developmental communication and basic cognitive skill development.

Before we all pile on to endorse vouchers, do keep in mind that he who pays the piper calls the tune.  That is, when you accept government money, you simultaneously accept government control.  Which is even scarier to me than Hugh’s quoting of "freethinker" dogma.

Robert Perry,

To me, that has always been one of the most valid concerns about the private voucher system. Since I have already footed my son’s bill for private school from kindergarten to completion of high school, at this point I have never really thought about it that much. If private school vouchers ever passed, how would you ensure that government control would not be attached or ever attached in the future?

awwwwwwwww.......................... ROB had to attack my parents in his response...how PATRIOTIC and RIGHTEOUS of him, unfortunately for him they have both passed on so they won’t get to be INFORMED of his assessment of their parenting skills....hang in there buddy...all is not lost YET.....ya still have 8 months and 9 days until THE SWEEP occurs........(ya probably expected me to mention your parents in my response but as ya can see that wont occur as i am pretty sure parenting is hard enough without an outside jury casting it’s opinion)

oops, almost forgot to ask ya (since you apparently know EVERYTHING about other people’s lives) after THE SWEEP in november what is sean hannity gonna do with all that free time? perhaps he can help with the making of EXORCIST 4 since he is such an expert on the subject of "casting out demons".......i won’t ask ya what o’reilly and coulter are gonna do since by then bill will have checked himself into AA and ann will be getting treatment for her fondness for "fingerthroating"....i know it is early out there so once your hangover wears off ya can read this and then enjoy the rest of your weekend........as far as GRAMMAR,SPELLING and ENGLISH SKILLS perhaps this might surprise you but this is the INTERNET....ya know CYBERSPACE.....not  a final test for an ENGLISH MASTER’S DEGREE.........i am so shocked that someone from your side would be so judgemental over the important things facing our country today like whether or not someone left out a comma or typed a RUNON sentence....far be it for you guys to mention the million animals a year that invade our country and bankrupt our health care services,or perhaps the IRAQ war which apparently is going "just fine if we STAY THE COURSE" or the fact that even our "ALLIES" have up and left shaking their heads......except POLAND....oh no ROB did ya see that?i too almost "forgot to mention POLAND"....(typical lefty he forgot poland)....i take it all back as i now see that those 39 troops poland sent into iraq to help us were a HUGE help

hk,

My late father, a very intelligent and educated man, gave me some sage advice about debating.

Never debate the extreme ends of the intelligence curve. On the left side, you are trying to convince a fool of something he can not comprehend. When debating someone the right side, think of the fool on the left side.

Eneils, are you talking about debating the extrema of the intelligence curve, or the extrema of the political curve?  Methinks the latter.....though it could be said that someone who rants for thousands of words without apparently saying anything could belong to the lower (not left) end of the intelligence curve.  :^)
