Hillary Clinton Fibs About Clinton Library’s “Openness”

Here’s Hillary Clinton talking about the Clinton Presidential Library with Larry King:

That’s one of the things the library really stands for. It physically stands for openness with all the glass and the light. But he wants it to be a place where people come and really study. And everything’s going to be available.

Here’s the reality about the Clinton Library:

“Nearly three years after the Clinton Library opened—and more than 21 months after its trove of records became subject to the Freedom of Information Act—barely one half of 1 percent of the 78 million pages of documents and 20 million e-mail messages at the federally funded facility are public, according to the National Archives.” (Michael Isikoff, “Papers? I Don’t See Any Papers,” Newsweek, 10/29/07)

The Clinton Library is particularly mum when it comes to papers dealing with Hillary’s involvement in her husband’s administration.  It seems that many papers regarding that time in Hillary’s career won’t be made public until after the 2008 election.

But don’t worry, people.  Bill Clinton is on the case.  In order to expedite the release of Hillary’s paperwork he’s asked to review each and every document before it is released to the public.  Because that will make things go faster, I guess.

And, of course, ensure that nothing too embarrassing for his wife gets out.
