Higher Ed Fills 5 Of Top 20 Spots On Obama’s Top Contributor List

Probably not surprising, given the political bent of most working in the higher ed industry, but even so:

Open Secrets has the top 20 institutions contributing to the Obama 2012 campaign. 5 of the top 20 institutions are universities. So much for non-partisan , scientific, altruistic research from those who claim to be “above” self-interest. University of California, Harvard, Stanford, University of Chicago, and Columbia make the list.

Given the state of this nation’s higher ed bubble, what these people are donating to is job security. Much like the housing bubble of the last decade, higher ed in America has become a bit of a pyramid scheme. The only way to keep things from collapsing is to keep pouring money into it. More subsidies for more students, and more funding throwing at the universities in general.

One way or another, the bubble is going to pop, but maybe some of these contributors are hoping for the gravy train to last a couple more years into retirement. Or tenure.
