Hey Troops, The Democrats Still Think You’re A Bunch Of Dumb Dupes

Charlie Rangel, still pushing the idea that we need to renew the draft, thinks that a) none of the troops joined the military to actually fight in a war and b) they just signed up because they couldn’t find a decent career in any other field.

I want to make it abundantly clear: if there’s anyone who believes that these youngsters want to fight, as the Pentagon and some generals have said, you can just forget about it. No young, bright individual wants to fight just because of a bonus and just because of educational benefits. And most all of them come from communities of very, very high unemployment. If a young fella has an option of having a decent career or joining the army to fight in Iraq, you can bet your life that he would not be in Iraq.

Video at the link.

First Kerry’s comments, now this.  Every time one of these guys open their mouths it becomes more and more clear how Democrats really feel about the military.

Do the Democrats think that disparaging our military men and women like this is going to get them any traction with the American public?

I understand what they’re tying to do.  Rangel, Kerry and a lot of the rest of the Democrats need to find a way to make the mission in Iraq seem like something less than honorable so that it’s that much easier for them to advocate giving up on the commitment we made to Iraqis when we invaded and/or cutting off the resources our troops need to further that mission even as they’re still fighting on the ground.  If they can make the troops appear to be nothing more than a bunch of simpletons who were manipulated into fighting a “war for profit” or “war for oil” by the evil Bush/Cheney/Rove cabal they’ve won.

At least they think that’s how it will go, anyway, but I’m not so sure that all this demeaning talk about the military isn’t going to backfire.

Let’s just dissolve the military, then and take whatever consequence comes our way, according to the mindset of these clowns.

Rangel’s characterization of our troops is deplorable, whatever his motivation. It’s not like they joined and then suddenly found out they were going to have to fight. And it’s not like the pay is all that great. So the poor, unskilled and uneducated just decided they would rather get shot at than flip hambergers for not much more pay? Stretches credibility a little, doesn’t it?

The troops have their own opinions.

An overwhelming majority of 72% of American troops serving in Iraq think the U.S. should exit the country within the next year,

* Plurality believes Iraqi insurgents are mostly homegrown
* Almost 90% think war is retaliation for Saddam’s role in 9/11, most don’t blame Iraqi public for insurgent attacks
* Majority of troops oppose use of harsh prisoner interrogation
* Plurality of troops pleased with their armor and equipment

I actually commented on that post a while back.

At the time the poll was given, 72% of the troops responding were simply agreeing with the existing Pentagon plan.

And when Hugh Hewitt tried to ask Zogby some questions about the poll and the guy hung up on him:

I interviewed John Zogby about 1:00 Pacific today, but he hung up on me after objecting to my questions. Among the questions: Did he travel to Iraq to oversee the polling? (No.) Would he tell me who had overseen the polling? (Information International of Beirut.) Would he tell me who at Information International? (No.) What did he pay the survey takers? (He wouldn’t say). Had he been invited by the someone in the American military to brief on results? (Yes.) Who was that? (He wouldn’t say.) Why hadn’t he released the demographics? (He had, he said. I disagreed. He hung up.)

Be sure to read this whole post on that poll.  It isn’t what you’d have us believe it is, which isn’t surprising coming from someone who seeks to confuse more often then inform.

Hey Charlie, you mean a “young fella” like Spc. Michael Hermanson, who was IN COLLEGE when he decided to go fight for his country and then gave the ultimate sacrifice?

Mr. Rangel (you don’t deserve the respect to be called Congressman), you’re a joke.  Have some decency and exit stage left.

Charlie Rangel’s denigration of our men and women in uniform is bad enough.  As a decorated veteran himself, he should know better (but then, so should John Kerry!).  But Rangel also insults America’s young and poor with his partisan tirade, suggesting that they are too stupid to recognize any of the other economic or educational opportunities available to them.

Perhaps if Congressman Rangel had some small experience with the private sector, perhaps he might better appreciate the vast array of opportunity available to anyone with the determination to take full advantage of it.  As it is, Rangel has no personal experience with the private sector at all.  The private sector economy that provides us the employment, the products, the services, and the tax receipts that fund the government giveaway programs of which Rangel is so fond, is as alien to Charlie Rangel as the dark side of the moon.

After a 4 year stint in the Army during the Korean War, for which he was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, Rangel returned to school and completed his undergraduate and law school studies, then went to work for the government.  His congressional web page states,

“He has spent his entire career in public service, first as an Assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, and later in the New York State Assembly. He was elected to the 92nd Congress on November 3, 1970, and has been re-elected to each succeeding congress.”

Charlie Rangel is hardly the first Congressman to have no idea what he’s talking about.  And he is certainly not the first Democrat to be so obviously afflicted with foot-in-mouth disease.  The Congressman is articulate and colorful in a playful, almost harmless manner.  But he is wrong.  And he owes the men and women of the US military, and America’s young and poor, an apology of epic proportion.

My cousin is a army ranger scout and he loves to go and shoot people - thinks its sweet. Judging from all the troops out raping and murdering for fun I’d say they love that shit. Rangle is obviously wrong. Also… little rich kids don’t join the military despite what y’all think.

Yeah, Sparkie; your overheated fantasies and lies are real; the actual numbers aren’t.  Oh yeah.

Are you saying you have numbers that prove little rich kids join the military. Let’s have ‘em.

Sparkie, are you off your meds? Take a look at what you just wrote. Nobody’s out there “raping amnd murdering for fun” except the Islamo-fascists we’re fighting. Our troops are held accountable when they commit crimes on the battlefield. They go to jail for a long, long time.

Take a break and find your medications, please.

"little rich kids” isn’t exactly a scientific term, is it?  As a matter of fact, it would be the “big rich kids” who would tend to go into the military.  You are still just making things up, aren’t you, Sparkie?

So what do we say about Pat Tillman and I agree with the other poster Dana Hermanson both were college educated people, Hermanson was in college and chose to fight for their country and both paid with their lives.

Although I do respect Charlie Rangle’s service to his country he has no clue what he is talking about. What he should say is that hey I am opposed to war. Funny thing is though he is saying Bush would have never went to war based on the flimsy evidence that we had. This is the same evidence his buddies on the left believed to be true. Funny how they can have it both ways.

Seriously though, I am sick and tired of the democratic mantra on Iraq already, they might as well just say they are a bunch of woosies and they can’t stomach a fight worth fighting for, of they never say a war they agreed with.

Like John Gibson told some lefty that was spouting off on his show the other night, its your war now too, what you going to do with it. The left has no clue except to retreat. They must be taking lessons from the French.

Nice one sparkie, too bad that Rob posted the numbers just last Friday.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

He has spent his entire career in public service…

In other words, he has lived his entire life on someone else’s money.  Nice.

I’m sick of hearing about people taking a government job as being better than the rest of us.  The guy working at the counter at McDonalds is performing a better public service than the average Democrat politician.

According to Rangel’s disclosure forms at Open Secrets, Rangel has done modestly well during his “public service” career.  He is currently worth between $560,000 and $1.3 million.

Not much by congressional standards (#182), especially for someone who has been in office as long as Rangel has.  But certainly he is far better off financially than all those poor, young Americans he wants to force into government service.

I think everyone is missing Rangel’s true intentions. The troops may not be able to find a job because of the illegal immergrants. Which he is for. Plus, with more of our workers in the military it would make room for more illegal immergrants to find a job and keep down any wage increases by natural pay raises through time on the job. Being illegal the can’t complain or join a union. Which then allows the Democrats to say we have to raise the mimimun wage because those illegals are not being paid enough. That is the thoughts that wanders through some of the politicians in this country anymore. What is in it for me. How can I still be re-elected to a 2 year term for life. Instead of new blood and ideas in the congress.

Rich O on November 27, 2006 at 10:21 am

I am beginning to think that we would be better off if we had term limits in this country. Rangle, Kennedy, Schummer, Levin, Pelosi, Finstien et al have been around way too long in the political picture. Heck I dream of a day I don’t have to see some of these clowns on tv anymore. Its nice to see some new people in office unforunately, they are saying the same crap.

The dems are all for Illegals, they think if they can get them a drivers liscense they will vote for them. I think it is funny that Charlie maybe playing both side for his own agenda… They definately want the soldiers to vote for them. I don’t think Chuck has a clue he is offending them with his views on the military and Iraq.

We don’t need external term limits; all we have to do is not re-elect anyone.  We have the politicians we want, essentially.

Same old same old…

I went into a public-’ouse to get a pint o’ beer,
The publican ‘e up an’ sez, “We serve no red-coats here.”
The girls be’ind the bar they laughed an’ giggled fit to die,
I outs into the street again an’ to myself sez I:

O it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, go away”;
But it’s “Thank you, Mister Atkins”, when the band begins to play,
The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
O it’s “Thank you, Mister Atkins”, when the band begins to play.

I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
They gave a drunk civilian room, but ‘adn’t none for me;
They sent me to the gallery or round the music-’alls,
But when it comes to fightin’, Lord! they’ll shove me in the stalls!

For it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, wait outside”;
But it’s “Special train for Atkins” when the trooper’s on the tide,
The troopship’s on the tide, my boys, the troopship’s on the tide,
O it’s “Special train for Atkins” when the trooper’s on the tide.

Yes, makin’ mock o’ uniforms that guard you while you sleep
Is cheaper than them uniforms, an’ they’re starvation cheap;
An’ hustlin’ drunken soldiers when they’re goin’ large a bit
Is five times better business than paradin’ in full kit.

Then it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, ‘ow’s yer soul?”
But it’s “Thin red line of ‘eroes” when the drums begin to roll,
The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
O it’s “Thin red line of ‘eroes” when the drums begin to roll.

We aren’t no thin red ‘eroes, nor we aren’t no blackguards too,
But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
An’ if sometimes our conduck isn’t all your fancy paints,
Why, single men in barricks don’t grow into plaster saints;

While it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, fall be’ind”,
But it’s “Please to walk in front, sir”, when there’s trouble in the wind,
There’s trouble in the wind, my boys, there’s trouble in the wind,
O it’s “Please to walk in front, sir”, when there’s trouble in the wind.

You talk o’ better food for us, an’ schools, an’ fires, an’ all:
We’ll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
Don’t mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
The Widow’s Uniform is not the soldier-man’s disgrace.

For it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Chuck him out, the brute!”
But it’s “Saviour of ‘is country” when the guns begin to shoot;
An’ it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ anything you please;
An’ Tommy ain’t a bloomin’ fool—you bet that Tommy sees!
