To a degree I have to say ‘mea culpa,’ I am guilty of excess anger at times and at times I have felt victimized by those that don’t share my values. What evere happened to schools teaching the basics, like reading, writing and arithmetic?
If you want to learn about religon, and possibilities offer it as a course later, but not as a requirement.
Leave the teaching of religon to the churches and the parents.
The Classroom should be for teaching the essentials like reading, writing, arithmetic, geography (how many kids can actually find Iraq, let along Colorado on a map?).
Gay agendas need to be removed, it has no place in the classroom, especially K-12.
Religon of any sort needs to be removed frm being taught in school, UNLESS it is a religous school. Though removing the teaching of religon should by no means intefere with allowing others to pray if they feel like, or coming together to discuss religon or pray. What students do are not considered teaching, and encroaching on thier rights to discuss freely with each other prayer or thier lives should not be infringed on by school officials.
Teachers should not be teaching opinion or THIEr views. They stick with the sylabus, and should not be attacking students in discussions because thier views may differ. That is not the way of discussion, and teachers should know better - they are after all SUPPOSED to be the adults.
Schools should not be trying to usurp the rights of the Parents, but should be working with the parents to refine the education of what they are teaching children to better work through problems that may be occurring. The school should not discount parents objections, they are teachers, not the care takers of these children. If the parents have a objection, they damn well better listen.

I see alot of people here are discussing the past, while if we do not examine hte past we may be doomed to repeeat it, I do not think it has much bearing on the present at the moment.
Also, discussing individual assocaitions does not mean the group or the party as a whole takes the same view. There have been kooks on both sides of the aisle but I can bet you it is not the main ideal of either party to hurt, injure or kill someone who differs from thier opinions. (Drive them into silence, yeah, I can believe that)
I believe I hold a Conservative view for the most part, but I am willing to listen and discuss other possibilities with as much an open mind as I am able. I try and vote not for the party, but for the most capable person that holds a certain value set that I am agreeable with, or come close to with agreement, and who I believe is the most suited and equipped person to deal with the problems of today.
I believe the republicans, the majority of them have become spineless, and I think the electorate need to have a change of representatives in Washington. I do not mean replace them with Democrats, but with representatives that will listen to thier electorate and not say one thing and do another.
If you really want to get involved, and get rid of spineless republicans and rinos, then target the known ones, and push and suppot a Conservative to reun against that person, removing them from washington and putting someone who will listen to the voters.
These people are supposed to be there to represent us, they need to be reminded of this.

re: Bible teaching in public schools. Yes, I seem to recall the presence of hornbooks. Tablets that were often Bible-related stories or verses. They were called Hornbooks because they were really single-page, double-sided tablets covered with a clear, waterproof coating.
Given the Biblical warnings against homosexuality and other excesses that allegedly brought on the destructions of the Flood and the nuking of Sodom and other Cities of the Plain, I can’t imagine that homosexuality would fit in anywhere in a positive mention in pre-Brown v. Board of Education schooling.
But since that Supreme Court ruling wrested local control of schools and curricula from parents and local authorities, we have been subjected to an ever-increasing political indoctrination of our kids, matched only by the degree that they have been dumbed down insofar as history, mathematics, science and other substantive courses are concerned.

Like another poster, from one incident that may or may not have been what or how you describe to “all Christians” Even taking the worse case that this is connected, how many died? One. vs. 3,000 on 9/11/01. How in your paragraph do you come to the conclusion that the person instigating this was a Christian?
This happened 90 years ago. We kill over one million 1,000,000 babies every year. I will not call all them athiesists, Christians, Muslims or Catholics. They are people who murder babies. Same thing, different perspective.

What we did in South Carolina about twenty years ago: Home Rule. It took power away from US Representatives and gave it to the counties and various school districts to be responsive to people in their small communities so they could see what they were doing with their money.

After numerous scandals exposed by SLED and the US Dept of Justice, they were convicted of crimes. The good Republicans who did not “excuse” their friends from paying taxes were finally elected. I will be glad to name names. It took about thirty years to enlighten the populace to the dirty deeds of the Democrats. We now have almost a complete Republican State, elected by the people of our state.

We have seen the gradual decline of discipline in the public schools ever since.
Drug dealers, prostitutes, half of the girls with at least one illegitimate child before they get to High School. Fights in school, almost the entire school body on at least one drug every day. Students who can not spell, memorize multiplication tables, get to class, write their names on a paper, kicking children in the head, raping girls in the bathroom, etc.

It would be safe to argue that the 1st Amendment was intended to deny congress the power to establish a state religion such as the Church of England which every citizen was forced to support by taxation, regardless of their personal religious preference.
Had the Framers wished to ban religion in the public square, they could have easily and clearly done so. They did not.

This country is not a theocracy, nor would I want it to be! It is not a Christian nation, although it was built and it prospered as a nation founded upon Judeo-Christian principles. The framers of our Constitution and the Founders of this nation either directly or as second generation Americans mostly came here to escape religious persecution, they mostly had faith in God and allegiance to Christ. They were not at all hostile towards the Christian faith as you would prefer, in fact their mostly Christian faith made it possible for all people, of many faiths to worship their god as they chose, in the land of liberty, under the protection of Nature’s God, the sole Guarantor of our Libery.
