Heitkamp Mailer Says She’s Not Obama Even As She Campaigns With Obama’s Top Surrogate
3:22pm
Both President Barack Obama and his policies are extremely unpopular in North Dakota, which is why Heitkamp has spent so much time distancing herself from both (despite being a vocal proponent of both Obama and policies like Obamacare before she was a Senate candidate).
So it’s a little humorous that even as the mailer below, in which Heitkamp claims she’s not a “tall thin man with nuclear launch codes” (a less racial variation of this comment which she made at debate several weeks back) hits the mailboxes of North Dakotans across the state (mine arrived this afternoon), she’s preparing to campaign with President Obama’s top surrogate in Fargo.
In fact, the only reason why Bill Clinton was available for this short-notice, last-minute stump opportunity with Heitkamp is because he was dispatched to Minnesota to shore up Obama’s numbers there after they’ve appeared to be slipping over the last couple of weeks.
So, Heidi Heitkamp claims she isn’t just like Barack Obama, but she’s happy to piggyback on his campaign in a last ditch effort to regain momentum in her Senate race.
Sounds hypocritical to me.
Update: A reader emails, referring to Heitkamp soliciting big money support from the Council for a Livable World, “of course she doesn’t have the launch codes because she wants to shut down the nuclear arsenal that employs over 20% of Minot.”
Heh.
