Heitkamp Loses Ground To Berg In Latest Democrat Poll
12:38pm
Democrats have released yet another poll (based on a sample of voters provided by the state Democrat party with a massive 5-point margin of error and polled by the same company that showed Barack Obama winning North Dakota in 2008) which indicates that Heidi Heitkamp is leading Berg by 4 points.
You can read the full polling memo below.
To be sure, these polls from the Democrats aren’t intended to actually measure support for Heitkamp so much as create a narrative about Heitkamp beating Berg. This is about headlines and spin, not honest polling. It’s hard to imagine Heitkamp beating Berg in a state where every other Republican statewide candidate is going to win in a landslide, and where Berg leads Heitkamp in fundraising from North Dakotans by a heavy margin.
Keep in mind, too, that among the independent polls in this race (which exclude the Democrat-sponsored polls) Berg is leading by five points.
But it is interesting to note that this poll shows Heitkamp’s lead down two points from the last poll Democrats released in July. If we can trust this polling methodology to be at least consistently bad, Heitkamp’s rabid attacks on Berg over the last few weeks are actually costing her support.
