Heidi Heitkamp On Whether Or Not She’d Vote For Obama Again: “Sure”

This is video of Heidi Heitkamp speaking in 2008 about how “awesome” the next “eight years” of Barack Obama was going to be (this is the video Heitkamp’s political allies have tried to get expunged from the internet):

This is video from one of Heitkamp’s recent town hall meetings. She was asked whether or not she’d vote for Obama again. Her answer? “Sure.”

That’s a big decline in enthusiasm, it seems. I’m guessing Heitkamp answered in the affirmative because she had to. A Democrat US Senate candidate saying she wouldn’t vote for Obama again would be big national news not likely to sit well with the national Democrat party. Since North Dakota Democrats have a rather marginal fundraising network in the state, Heitkamp can’t afford to alienate her national base of support.

So “sure” is pretty much the only answer she could give.

To be clear, I have no doubt that Heitkamp is still very much an enthusiastic Obama supporter. Her tack to the political middle this campaign season is all a contrivance. If elected to the Senate, she would be a consistent vote for Obamacare and stimulus spending and all the other bad policies coming out of the Obama administration.

She just has to walk a thin line about that support during campaign season. Heitkamp can’t be honest with North Dakota voters, because if she was she wouldn’t get elected.
