Heidi Heitkamp Losing Ground To Rick Berg In Democrat Polling?
2:11pm
According to this tweet from Washington Post blogger Aaron Blake, Democrats have released a new poll showing Heidi Heitkamp beating Rick Berg 45 – 44:

On the face of it, that’s good news for Heitkamp. The only reliable independent polling done in North Dakota’s Senate race so far (I’m ignoring polling done by Forum Communications at this point) also showed an effective tie between the candidates.
But to establish a trend based on fair comparisons, let’s compare this polling to other polling released by Democrats in this race:
Two polls released by Democrats in 2011 showed Berg losing four and then five points, respectively. Another poll released in April of this year also showed Heitkamp leading by 5 points.
Now, apparently, Democrats are polling her at just 1 point over Berg.

Democrats may be putting a positive spin on the fact that Heitkamp is tied with Berg in a race where she’s widely considered the underdog, but if their own polling is to be trusted she’s on a downward trend in the matchup.
