Heidi Heitkamp Fundraising In Texas With Planned Parenthood And EMILY’s List

Nothing says “I’m a North Dakota moderate” like fundraising outside of North Dakota with two of the nation’s most notorious pro-abortion groups.

Knock on any door in the high-dollar neighborhoods of Dallas and you’re likely to find a political fundraiser in progress. Tonight, Dallas philanthropist Naomi Aberly is hosting a dinner for five women running for the U.S. Senate.

They are U.S. Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nevada; U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin , D-Wisconsin; U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono , D-Hawaii; Elizabeth Warren, Democrat of Massachusetts, andHeidi Heitkamp, Democrat of North Dakota and former state attorney general. A couple of rock stars in the world of women’s progressive politics will also be at the dinner: Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, and Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY’S List.

I’ve written before about the disconnect between the version of Heidi Heitkamp that campaigns in North Dakota, one that seems downright Republican, and the version of Heitkamp that hob-knobs outside of North Dakota with liberal progressive “rock stars.”

The simple truth is that Heidi Heitkamp can’t be herself in front of North Dakota voters, because who Heidi Heitkamp actually is couldn’t get elected in North Dakota.

By the way, both Gulleson and Heitkamp have ties to Planned Parenthood already this cycle. Heitkamp is fundraising with the notorious group’s leader, and Gulleson sent out an email to supporters complaining that Republicans oppose public funding for the group.

Clearly, this sort of campaigning is intended for their liberal base, not North Dakota voters at large.
