ND legislature says no to Medicaid payments for surrogate mothers

BISMARCK, N.D. (GPN) – North Dakota lawmakers are moving to ban payment of Meidcaid benefits for surrogate mothers.

The North Dakota Senate unanimously approved the ban Friday. The legislation now goes to the North Dakota House for its review.

Medicaid is a taxpayer-financed medical insurance program for low-income North Dakotans.

Minot Sen. Oley Larsen says North Dakota’s Department of Human Services requested the change.
