Legislator says “trust has been broken” with ND university system

Nathe said Dickinson State University’s problems involving manipulating of student enrollment and the awarding of degrees to international students who hadn’t completed course work is still fresh on legislators’ minds. He said so is North Dakota State University’s May 2011 request for an 8.8 percent tuition increase from the Board of Higher Education after legislators had tried to cap increases at 2.5 percent.

“I think higher education will be right up there … especially considering the past. That trust has been broken. That trust will need to be repaired,” Nathe said.

Foolish to think trust can be repaired when Shaft and Espegard still run the board. They’re up to their heads in this scandal and legislators are supposed to trust them? Gimme a break!

I agree with that. We need a house cleaning. Unfortunately, the legislature has little or no control.
