Grand Forks Herald: Senate GOP right to say no to early childhood funds

Hat tip to Joan Walsh, editor of Salon.com, for recalling this quote and applying it to advocacy of early childhood education:

“The great liberal failing,” said the late Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, is “constantly to overpromise and to overstate, and thereby constantly to appear to underperform.”

That’s the issue dogging ECE advocates ranging from President Barack Obama to North Dakota’s state superintendent, Kirsten Baesler.

And it’s why the Senate Appropriations Committee was right to vote “do not pass” on the latest recommendation, in effect calling for stronger evidence before the state commits its dollars.
