Energy industry buttering up Heitkamp

IT’S JUST A LITTLE CRUSH: The North Dakota freshman is emerging as one of the industry’s biggest allies, joining the cadre of moderate, fossil-fuel friendly Democrats in the Senate. And top industry officials want Heitkamp to know they’re on her side, even if many of them supported her opponent, Republican Rick Berg, during the hotly contested North Dakota Senate campaign. Over boxed lunches at Marathon Oil Company’s Washington offices in December, top oil industry officials gathered to fete Heitkamp, who was fresh off her narrow victory.
