Has Earl Pomeroy Ever Betrayed North Dakotans More Than He Betrayed Them Last Night?

North Dakota has a love/hate relationship with it’s all-Democrat congressional delegation, including Rep. Earl Pomeroy. On one hand, certain powerful constituencies in North Dakota love that they bring home the bacon in the form of lots and lots of money for pork barrel projects here in the state. That we’re selling away local control and state sovereignty with every dollar they bring in apparently doesn’t matter to them, but that’s a post for another time.
On the other hand, Pomeroy and Conrad and Dorgan are always sneaking off to vote with their leftist colleagues whenever they think North Dakotans aren’t looking. When election time looms they usually pick an issue or two to get “conservative” on so they have something to talk about when they put on their flannel shirts and have pictures taken of themselves walking through wheat fields and standing next to tractors to prove now down-homey they are. But the simple reality is that’s just so much political theater aimed at convincing their red state constituency that they’re something they’re not.
But lately it seems as though Earl Pomeroy isn’t even trying. Back in August, when North Dakota and the entire nation was turning up at town halls to question their elected leaders about health care and give them a piece of their mind, Earl Pomeroy didn’t even bother to hold a single in-person town hall where he could meet with his constituents face-to-face. Pomeroy did make noises, some of the time, about opposing government-run health care but ultimately when Nancy Pelosi said “jump” old Earl said “how high.”
Couple that with the sort of routine votes Pomeroy casts against the interests of his own constituency, such as this agriculture job killing bill he voted for just before his health care vote (the sort of thing you never hear about in the North Dakota media), and you begin to see why Earl Pomeroy simply cannot represent North Dakota any longer.
It’s time to vote this guy out. Because as I already said, he isn’t even pretending any more.

The more I think about it, who cares about Earl’s role in the Stupak amendment. He has been pro abortion time and time again. So from a conservative standpoint he votes to kill babies and from a liberal standpoint he is a hypocrite. Pomeroy is a joke and a true embarrasment to North Dakota. Dino, do you want him?

  • sayanything-4124

Pretty much. As I said, it is the farm welfare and only the farm welfare that keeps him in office.

That is the danger for him. If other issues start to override the farm welfare he brings home, then he is in real trouble, because he just is not liked overall.

That is what I am saying to you about Main Street. The rumblings are getting louder and louder and he doesn’t seem to see the danger for him in that. Farm welfare is being pushed back behind healthcare and other things he has waffled about.

  • sayanything-4124

Nobody is disagreeing with you Dino.

  • sayanything-4124

no, not really. As I said in my first post. People keep electing him because he brings home the farm welfare. Nobody is disagreeing with you in that fact(at least I didn’t read it that way in this post).

What I also said is that a growing number of people, at least in my part of the state, are starting to get angry about the rest of what he is doing. He is not wildly popular. He gets voted in for the welfare and the lack of a better candidate, not because he is a widely popular and loved politician.

Again, that is how it is “here”.

  • sayanything-4124

Bob, Rob is spot on in this post.

We do have a love/hate relationship with him, and he is the one we hate the most..lol

Farm Welfare my friend. That is IT. That is the only reason they get elected. Every other item, particular Earl’s record of voting is not something we like, but there are enough who want the farm welfare to vote him in.

Now, is that true in every part of NoDak? No, of course not, but particularly on Main Street here in Western ND, he isn’t a “loved” one. Well, let me be more specific and say here on Main Street in North Western ND.

I am involved in “Main Street” in my community and my husband spends 5 days a week in many Main Street business in almost(I actually think it is everyone that has any kind of Main Street, but I am not 100% sure, so I will say almost all)every town in our region, and I can tell you, that even the farm welfare lovers are not happy.

He is the most vulnerable imo of our delegation, because he just isn’t all that well liked, and Nancy Pelosi may be the most unpopular person in this state(again, for sure my corner of it) and he seems linked at the hip, or rather trailing on a leash behind her.

You find a decent candidate and you link him at every issue with her, and you will see him go buh bye.

I am not one who is so partisan that I say something w/o spin, even if I don’t like it, but in this case, and for MY corner of the state, he is increasingly and incredibly unpopular now.

He doesn’t seem to see that, but he may be in for a very unpleasant surprise. Even if he wins, but wins by a closer margin, he will be quaking in his boots, because he won’t be expecting it.

Just what I see from my little corner of the world :)

Say, is this the same Earl Pomeroy first elected in 1992 and won his 2008 re election 62% to 38%?

It looks like a majority of Nodakers like him.

When you go to visit the main stream, do you pack a lunch?

  • waterjoe

He did vote for the Stupak amendment. I can’t consider that a betrayal.

I also think we need to careful about assuming that North Dakotans overwhelmingly opposed the House bill. I think they would have without the Stupak amendment, but with it, it is not so clear.

  • sayanything-3430

Earl Pomeroy is a liar and that is proven. I actually agree with Dino on something and that is that a lot of North Dakota citizens turn the other way to keep the handouts coming. He will betray North Dakota on guns, taxes, abortion, gay issues (Earl is fond of this one) and anything else. I don’t know if he’s holding out hope to get Ways and Means when Rangel goes or what, but he is 100% beholden to Princess Pelosi and Barney Frank. It is time for him to go.

No, the three stooges sound very reasonable when they come back to North
Dakota to campaign. It’s when they’re in Washington that they let their red
    side out.

  • sayanything-51

So the majority of NDers in the secrecy of a voting booth, vote for socialism, but complain about it when their out walking on main street?

  • sayanything-4204

Has anyone ever seen a Liberal campaign on what they actually do want to do to this county….Heck Obama’s campaign sounded closer to Reagan than did McCain……

If Liberals would actually tell what they want to do…….few outside of the coastal area’s would ever get elected….

  • sayanything-4124

    Exactly.

  • jimmypop

if he had a valid opponent, he would never vote like this. hovey needs to take him out, but he does not want the pay cut.

  • jimmypop

Sure seems like the North Dakotans disagree since they keep taking the welfare.

if you are talking farmers…. there are not that many left; 30,300 TOTAL right now. 1/3 earn nothing and 1/3 are little more than hobby farms earning less than $100K. we really have 10,000 real farms up here. id bet many of those are corporate farms.

    http://www.ndfb.org/news/default.asp?ID=375

if you are talking other fed cash, we have beaten this to death. most of that comes to maintain federal roads or bases. and most of us here would be happy to have zero of those things if you take ALL your rules out. let us do what we want and keep your cash.

  • ec99

Earl’s untouchable. He’ll come back, put on his plaid shirt. walk throught the wheat fields, tell everyone how much pork he brings in, and win over 60% of the vote.

  • sayanything-3430

Waterjoe, Every poll I saw said ND was against the bill. The Stupak thing is Earl’s way of walking the line again. I don’t believe he would have voted against Cap and Trade if the Princess hadn’t had the votes she needed. She gave him a pass because she wanted him on this one more. The guy is a liar. That is plain and simple. I’m tired of saying he’s a nice guy when he lies and lies and lies. So what if he says please and thank you and he does the midwest “I suppose…”. Who cares? He’s a flat out liar. It’s time for Earl’s little routine to go to San Francisco where he belongs.

  • mhs75

i called pomeroys office friday erging a no vote stating a yes should be concidered an act of treason

  • brain trust

Don’t forget that he voted for Nancy Pelosi’s “stimulus” package before it was torn apart in the Senate for its extreme cost. He is acting like a person, won’t say man, who won’t be running again. Considering what he has voted for, a monkey should be able to beat him in the next election.

  • sayanything-3430

You said it much better than me. I’m so mad I can’t see straight about this issue. Total disregard for the Constitution.

You summed it up nicely badlands.

  • sayanything-8436

All these senators and congressmen have branch offices in various cities around their states. We need to picket, protest, and generally shut down these offices. Another huge “tea party” in DC would also be a great idea, especially just before they vote on the final healthcare bill. Perhaps we should charter some buses to get large groups together.

  • sayanything-4416

Sure seems like the North Dakotans disagree since they keep taking the welfare.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

The majority of North Dakotans don’t really know what’s going on. The media doesn’t question these guys, and a lot of the Republican leadership is cpmplicot.

  • headward

Vote him out? His office was flooded with calls and protests about him supporting this. The Reps run for election every 2 years to searve the people in the short term. When North Dakotans say jump Earl needs to be heeding our needs right now. By this vote I believe we need to start the recall process and get him out before the election. That way if some turd of a bill comes squirts out of the senate he will not be there to vote on the bill that comes out of the conference. I would also think it would start a ripple throughout the nation and make other reps nervous voting for it. This would undercut Pelosi’s power.

  • sayanything-4416

Um, 62% is a pretty significant win.

What’s more interesting is that so many supposedly conservative N Dakotans want that “farm welfare”.

  • sayanything-6955

It is not just in your part of the state badlands, I travel the state weekly from I94 south to the SD border and from Bismarck east to Fargo, the entire southeast corner of the state, and both Pomeroy and Dorgan are no where near as popular anymore. Bringing home the bacon has left a sour taste in a lot of folks mouth’s these days. If there is a time to beat these two yeahoos its now!
