Harry Reid: Reports That Democrats Have Dropped The Public Option “Not True”

It’s being reported all over the internet tonight that Democrats have come to some sort of a broad compromise on a health care bill that includes dropping the public option, but Harry Reid is saying that there is a compromise but that the public option is still in the bill.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Senate Democrats said they reached a broad agreement on Tuesday on a possible compromise over a government-run insurance plan in a sweeping healthcare overhaul and would seek cost estimates on the deal.
“We have a broad agreement,” Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid told reporters, refusing to give any details on the talks.
Reid said reports the government-run “public option” had been dropped were “not true.”

So what are the details of this compromise? They’re not saying anything until the CBO scores how much it’ll cost, but I’m guessing it has something to do with all the talk about a compromise involving Medicare. I’m guessing that the “public option” that will be staying in the bill will be some form of expanded Medicare and/or Medicaid. Meaning we’ll be taking those bankrupt entitlement programs and putting more people on them.
How we’ll pay for such a thing is anyone’s guess, but I’m sure Reid and his cronies will have some accounting magic up their sleeves to make it all look kosher. At least in the short term.

No, lying liar, it was Democrats that did all those things TO minoroties, it was conservative Republicans that stopped you.

The public option is obviously as dead as a doornail. My advice to the progressives is to take what they can get now.

I don’t know what kind of health care reform will come out of this session, but I strongly suspect it won’t be much. There is, however a silver lining behind this very dark cloud. I am reminded of the Civil Rights Act of 1957. Don’t be embarrassed if you’ve never heard of it, there really isn’t a hell of a lot to remember about it; a mere pittance, really – a scrap of leftovers tossed out to “American Negros” (in the parlance of the age) in order to appease them. But it made the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 – the one we remember – all the more easier seven years later.

We’ll live to fight another day.

Get them out of DC, Make them all teleconference their votes from their home states. It makes sense from a budget standpoint, a security standpoint, and from the standpoint of those who want to limit the influence of the professional lobbyists.

Sell many of the buildings and move the seat of power to Iowa or somewhere else in the midwest.

Paraphrasing Harry Reid, as he mubled whilst staring at his feet–we just cooked up something really special–I can’t tell you what it is right now, but you will love it (when we stuff it up your nose tomorrow). I am beginning to believe that the criteria for being Democrat Senate Majority Leader is simply being too dumb to say “no thanks”. It certainly has nothing to do with being articulate, inspiring or intelligent. As with the AGW scientists, Harry and Company find it necessary to do cook up their half-baked, country wrecking schemes behind closed doors, popping out occasionally to call the loyal opposition names. Harry, Dino and the rest of the braying donkeys should have a look at Australia–see how things are going for their ilk over there with respect to AGW and national healthcare–because they are going to be suffering a similar fate in the not-too-distant future.

more flip-flop government double speek we can’t ever trust democraps but they should be commended for training their spinkter to talk

Does anybody know if the CBO scoring has an appendix that details how much the expansion of Medicaid and Medicare will cost state governments? I imagine the bill will be huge.

It is ironic that the very body that was originally envisioned to represent state government’s interests at the federal level (the US Senate) is going to stick it to those very entities. This is a textbook example of why a repeal of the 17th amendment would lead to better governance.

Dino’s at least honest in this case. Single-payer is the objective. Of course he comrade Hannitized won’t admit it.

STFU Dino, nothing has been won yet!!!

It is interesting that unknown to me Rob was posting this same story while I was posting a story by the Associated Press that Reid had admitted this evening to dropped the Public Option and the AP provided details. So, which story is the truth?

“Additionally, the tentative deal calls for Medicare to be opened to uninsured Americans beginning at age 55″ Oh, goody; stoned slackers will be forced to pay for my health care. LOL!

  • sayanything-4416

Bottom line: The camel’s nose is heading for the tent. Once we pass this sweeping reform we’ll modify it over the years until we have single-payer universal coverage.

    The left wins again.

  • sayanything-4416

Yes, and it was the conservatives who watered down the civil rights act of 1957.

The camel’s nose is under the tent of health care.
