Harry Reid Looking To Strip Joe Lieberman Of Committee Chairmanship For Supporting John McCain

This is sure a funny thing to be going on as Barack Obama promises national unity.
Can you feel the unity and bi-partisanship?

Sen. Joe Lieberman’s affiliation with Democrats was in question after a meeting Thursday with Majority Leader Harry Reid, steamed over the Connecticut independent’s high-profile support of John McCain for president.
Reid, in a sternly worded statement after the 45-minute meeting, said no official decisions have been made. But an aide to the Nevada Democrat said Reid was leaning toward removing Lieberman as chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. The aide spoke on condition of anonymity because the discussions were confidential.
“While I understand that Sen. Lieberman has voted with Democrats a majority of the time, his comments and actions have raised serious concerns among many in our caucus,” Reid said.

From Vice Presidential candidate to party leper.
This is a testament to just how far to the left the Democrats have gone. And how arrogant they’re getting in their power. Sure, the Democrats picked up some ground in the Senate, but they’re still not filibuster proof. Do they really want an angry, embittered Joe Lieberman standing between them and a majority on certain key pieces of legislation?
This seems like an awfully vindictive move against a guy who, aside from the war in Iraq and McCain’s candidacy, really hasn’t strayed far from the liberal left.

Can’t you just feel the bipartisanship oozing from the left? This is unifying.

Lieberman has a conscious and ethics; naturally he could never be a Democrat.

Lieberman made his bed, now he has to lay in it. He tied his political career to John Mccain and the GOP so he has to go down with the ship.

    Woody,

What you do not comprehend, understandably, is that Liebermen’s motivations are based on principle, not the expediency of more “progressive” hacks like you… or Obama. To paraphrase a truly great American, Lieberman hasn’t left the Democrat party… the party left him!

His retreat from what he said is a true sign of a traitor. Let the GOP have him!

Your petulance is so becoming. See you at the filibuster!

Here comes the beginning of the over stretch by the left tards. The dems are going to run rough shod and they are going to piss a lot of people off.

It’s funny that an ex-demo like Lieberman can support a white candidate like Mccain and it’s considered honorable, but if a repub like Colin Powell support a black candidate, it’s all about race. Lieberman can support whomever he decide to, but when you say some of the things that he did, let him caucus with the GOP. He’s not welcome there either because no one trust a traitor!

It’s possible that this move by Reid could be the ultimate in weapons grade stupidity. If Lieberman, now formally an independent, decides to switch and caucus with the Republicans and his dear friend John McCain, that lost seat could conceivably cost Reid and the Democrats the filibuster proof majority they are desperately seeking.

Some of y’all clutching pearls need to google “Jim Jeffords.”

Go ahead and see if you can find the part where he actively campaigns against his party leader, I’m having trouble finding it.

Connecticut: home of Joe Lieberman and Benedict Arnold.

They will pursue revenge for their pathological grievances.

  • pparets

Lieberman may well be the single most influential vote in the Senate, since the Dems are just shy of a super-majority.

BatOne hits the nail on the head. Reid and his crowd will need Joe far more than Joe needs them.

I’m sure the American main stream will welcome gladly any reaching across the aisle by the right wing minority.

None of us here sid any such thing. In fact the only post about race was about how Powell was an Uncle Tom for being Republican til he went Obama. Nice try tho!

Even as they’re lied to about it by the leftist media?

Reid and co may need him, but don’t expect them to have the self-reflection to realize it, or the self-control to resist their baser urges for revenge.

And yes, I truly believe it’s a good examplar of things to come.

He can switch parties to the right

The difference, IT, is that Jeffords left the party and actively caucused with the Democrats…and far from losing his chairmanship in a committee, he gained a chairmanship that he coveted. Contrast that with Lieberman who supported the Democrats the vast majority of the time, but had the temerity to suggest that McCain might be a good president. For that, he’s at risk of being booted from a comittee.

How does that compare? Oh yeah, it doesn’t.

  • Wookiebush

Bat one, when we do get the filibuster senate, let us see how long it takes before the dem’s change the rules to override filibusters. They warned the repubs about it back when the dems were filibustering the republican senate.

Lieberman should have been bounced long ago. The only reason he hangs on is the monied elites in Conn. Your new allies. Heh.
