Harry Reid Blames “Republican Senate” For Holding Up “Doc Fix” Bill
Of course, there are only 39 Republicans in the Senate and that number isn’t enough for them to hold up anything without Democrat support, but Reid doesn’t let a little thing like reality get in his way.
Senate Democratic leaders on Wednesday blamed Republicans for an expected defeat of their $250 billion Medicare payment extension bill — even though a host of prominent Democrats have come out against the measure.
Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) pointed to what he called the “Republican Senate” for trying to stop the measure from advancing. Still, Reid claimed to have the votes to get the extension through.
“Well, of course I don’t bring anything to the floor if I don’t think I have the votes,” Reid said, adding that the bipartisan opposition to the measure is “indicative of what has been going on in Washington during this time that we’ve had this Republican Senate.”
“The story is the Republicans are opposing this even though they support it,” Reid said. There are only 39 Republicans in the Senate, which makes it impossible for them to filibuster legislation without the support of Democrats.
There are a total of 8 Democrats in the Senate who are opposing this “doc fix” bill which extends higher Medicare payments for another 10 years (something kept out of the actual health care bill because it would have run the deficits for that bill through the roof). But Reid wants to blame this awful bill’s stall on Republicans.
Because that’s more convenient than admitting that this is an awful bill that spends money our federal government doesn’t have.
And, really, the debate over this bill should a chill down the backs of Americans as they stare down the barrel of government health care. When more Americans are dependent on the government for health care, how awful will it be when how much health care will be spent for you will be decided by the government and not the individual.
The food-fight over this “doc fix” illustrates exactly why government shouldn’t be involved in health care at all.
