Happy Halloween
Happy Halloween everybody.
I love Halloween. It’s my favorite holiday. Not so much because of the candy or the costumes or anything, but rather because I enjoy scary movies and ghost stories. And I’m a total paranormal buff, which is a funny thing for an atheist to be I know, but still. It’s like candy for me. Just can’t get enough of it. I think my fascination does have something to do with my spiritual beliefs, though. I’ve never been able to accept the idea of there being a “god” on faith. I’ve always wanted proof, so maybe that’s why I like ghost stories. If they’re true, then isn’t that evidence of some sort of after life? Could be. I’ve been watching the SciFi channel’s Ghost Hunters series pretty religiously, and I’m fascinated by it. Like I said, can’t get enough.
Anyway, as a special Halloween treat I thought I’d share with you all some Halloween awesomeness from my personal collection. First, here’s George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead (now in the public domain).
A true classic.
Second, here’s the original recording of Orson Welles’ October 30th, 1938 War of the Worlds broadcast. My fiancee and I have a tradition where we drive out into the country late at night on Halloween and listen to this.
Enjoy.
By the way, if you’re looking for a good horror movie for tonight that’s actually been released this century check out Dawn of the Dead, which is a remake of one of Romero’s sequel
to Night of the Living Dead.
It is by far one of the best horror movies recently released.
28 Days Later is worth your time too, if you really want to go on a zombie-movie glut.
Feel free to make your own movie recommendations in the comments, or share your favorite ghost story.
