Half News, Half Schtick

According to Washington Post Ombudsman Deborah Howell, reporter/columnist Dana Milbank has been taken "to the Post's version of the woodshed" over his appearing on Keth Olberman's show in hunting gear after Dick Cheney's hunting accident.

That's good to hear, though this sentiment from Howell's column really speaks to the essence of the problem:

It all comes down to what Stephen Stanford of Saltillo, Miss., wrote: "If you are going to keep using his work, how about labeling it as opinion and not news?"


I think that statement replies to a lot of reporters these days who seem more interested in reporting their perspective of the events they observe than the facts of the events themselves.
