Gwen Ifill: Palin Blew Me Off During The Debate

The poor darling.  Victimized on national television by a white backwoods rube.  Because she couldn’t, you know, just ask Palin again if she wasn’t satisfied with the answer.

It wasn’t like she was the moderator or anything.

Ifill also says that her being pro-Obama doesn’t matter yet because she hasn’t yet written the chapter of her new book that’s about Obama.  Of course, the new book is titled The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama, so that’s not really telling us much is it?

Ifill shouldn’t have been the moderator any more than a McCain biographer should have been the moderator.

I wish Sarah had started out with:  “And Gwen, I want to thank you for moderating tonight, and I want congratulate you on your contract to write a book about Senator Obama.”

Joe on October 5, 2008 at 03:38 pm

Man, Tina Faye is great- the skit was hialrious. But Rob, can you say: “Victimized on national television by a white backwoods rube” without being branded a racist?

It seemed pretty obvious that Gwen Ifill has a bias position she is now putting out after being give the privilege of involvement.

Liberal pettiness to the end..

Jerry on October 5, 2008 at 04:44 pm

I think the underlying inference is that she is calling Governor Sarah a racist......

What reason would she, Gov. Palin, have any reason to get in to a conversation with her when it would be distorted and misreported anyway???

The media don’t care to admit that one of the “cool kids” doesn’t like them or their ilk..... and is well aware of their tactics.

Me thinks that old race-card may be long overplayed.... but will be played like a joker many more times in the near future.

Alright.  Yes I’m voting for McCain/Palin, but c’mon.  Not only did I not really find too much bias in Ifill’s performance, Palin hit it out of the park in spite of Ifill’s support of Obama (it’s performances like this that has the dEMOcrat Party so scared...).  Every moderator’s gonna have a political position that might not be conservative.  So it just looks plain bad for McCain supporters to be all up in arms over it.  Yes, we all know that the MSM has a bias, and blah blah blah.  This is representative of the atmosphere in which the GOP has to operate today.  It’s obvious that aren’t gonna have a favorable environment handed to them.  So, they have to deal with it.  And that’s exactly what Palin did.  Those that instead choose to moan about it are trapped in a feedback loop that renders them unable to make proactive arguments.  In other words, man up and get over yourselves, FCOL!

Jimmy, the bias has been on display from Ms Ifill for 2 years. Ever watch her propaganda program on PBS?

I think you missed my point.  Whether we like it or not, people will have political positions that differ from ours, and we aren’t gonna change it.  So for us to spend all our time pitying ourselves is a waste of time.  Instead, we should take the example set by Palin and go forward despite the unfavorable environment.

Maybe if you asked some of the questions that non-liberals cared about, she wouldn’t blow you off.

I don’t remember a single question that addressed a concern that conservatives or libertarians might have.

Well she was obviously biased toward’s Biden even though she tried hard not to appear that way. Eleven (11) times he was given the last word and rebuttal in the questioning. Sarah was allowed the last rebuttal only eight (8) times before Ifill went to the next question....and in her rebuttal she was interrupted by Ifill a couple of times and had to stop; but when Biden went over the clock he was not interrupted and was allowed to finish. So it wasn’t a complete level playing field, but Sarah got her punches in anyway.

By refusing to answer the moderator’s questions, Sarah Palin deliberately, selfishly, premeditatedly denied Americans an opportunity to hear just what differentiates her party and her personal views from her opponents.

She was less than forthcoming and entirely self absorbed.

Shame on her.

Excuse me, you were saying?

Blatant demagoguery.  But RBB knew that.

I think you guys are overreacting a bit.  Ifill said “If Joe Biden decided he was going to debate McCain, and Palin was going to give a stump speech to the American people, there is very little the moderator can do...”

That’s pretty accurate.

Also, her book isn’t a hagiography of Obama, so much as an exploration that a “not black enough” black man like Obama could end up being supported by other blacks… and covers other people besides Obama, including Colin Powell.  So I really don’t see this as that troublesome.

By refusing to answer the moderator’s questions…

Sarah refused to answer some of the more blatantly agendized and biased “questions”, as she should have.  Ifill humiliated herself with her obvious attempt to put out a hit on Sarah and conservatives in general.

Don’t hold your breath, rbb. Ever since I publicly humiliated R108 with my challenge, he’s made it clear that he’s incapable of backing up his arguments with anything but his own hatred and fear.

Jack on October 6, 2008 at 09:11 am

By refusing to answer the moderator’s questions…

It might prove an interesting exercise to go through that debate question by question, and see exactly which of the candidates obfuscated, changed the subject, or avoided the question asked the most… Biden or Palin.

We could then make a list of each candidate’s gaffes, misstatement, and outright lies, but Biden is already down and it might not seem fair to be piling on the poor dolt.

Greetings:

Kind of interesting that Tom Brokaw didn’t use the part of the Saturday Night Live skit where Gwen Ifill’s book deal was ridiculed.

Similarly, Ms. Ifill didn’t mention the issue on either of her Friday PBS appearances, “The News Hour” and “This Week in Washington.” Nor did Jim Lehr, the managing editor of “The News Hour.”

And, of liberal course, no apology or explanation was required or proffered.

Lovely people those.
