Guns: Coming Soon To A National Park Near You

This was the right decision.

WASHINGTON – People will soon be able to carry concealed, loaded guns in most national parks and wildlife refuges.
The Bush administration said Friday it is overturning a 25-year-old federal rule that severely restricts loaded guns in national parks.
Under a rule to take effect in January, visitors will be able to carry a loaded gun into a park or wildlife refuge — but only if the person has a permit for a concealed weapon and if the state where the park or refuge is located also allows concealed firearms.
The new rule goes further than a draft proposal issued last spring and would allow concealed weapons even in parks located in states that explicitly ban the carrying of guns in state parks. Some states allow concealed weapons but also ban guns from parks.
“If you can carry (a gun) on Main Street, you are allowed to carry in a national park,” said Chris Paolino. a spokesman for the Interior Department.

Which is as it should be.
Sometimes in the gun control debate we forget that keeping and bearing arms is a right that should only be regulated or curtailed in the most necessary of circumstances. There are no valid security or safety reasons for preventing citizens from lawfully carrying their firearms in national parks, and thus it should be allowed.
Unless you’re the sort of person who thinks that guns in and of themselves are a safety threat, in which case you’d better get busy trying to repeal the 2nd amendment. Because as long as guns are a right a citizens’ ability to go armed shouldn’t be curtailed.

Finally! Our ability to defend against criminals. I may have met one of these unhinged people this week. I walked away that time, but sometimes people on drugs can not be talked out of their irrational behaviors. There is no good reason to deny the 2nd Amendment nor the right of good people to bear arms (concealed or not) to defend themselves from the criminals of this nation (legal and/or illegals).

    Nieman,

    Great post. Reference links please.

I feel the Second Amendment is my permit to carry.
    Period.
My family operates under the theory that it is easier to get out of jail than it is to get out of a grave.
Or, as one of my Brothers puts it…”I’d rather be judged by 12 than carried by six.”

so I could see Obama overuling this asap. I don’t think he likes people with guns and religion, haha.

That is because the Left absolutely hates the Second Amendment, but knowing the people support it, they are content to chip away at the edges, subverting the Constitution.

Good thing one of the suburbs of Chicago lost a law suit that said they couldn’t deny people their second ammendment rights.

When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns…
And I for one would prefer to be able to defend myself against outlaws.

This is a great strike for the 2nd amendment. Hopefully Karl Marx Jr. doesn’t get rid of it anytime soon.

    Socks,

But don’t you know, only the Police and Military should have guns.

I guess the Second Amendment doesn’t mean what it says to some people.

I am sure NOBAMA will turn around and cancell this law.

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated’ people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own Government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:

    List of 7 items:
Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent
Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort, and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.

and the “Right” haven’t for the past eight years? Both sides are in a race to see who can shred the U.S. Constitution the fastest

A good reference to Neiman’s comments can be found at http://www.jpfo.org. I have personally read the German gun control laws, and quite frankly, the resemblance to Dodd’s 1968 Gun Control law is uncanny. Again, Neiman’s data are real.

Yes, tyrants generally dislike it when their victims can shoot back.

Neiman, thanks again for the historically accurate review of the communist’s murder of defenseless citizens. The Australian and British experiments have failed badly.

As one man quoted in our State Newspaper said about the “tax-free” weekend for guns a few weeks ago, “good citizens had one tax-free weekend. Criminals have 365 days of tax-free days a year.”
